Macaulay Culkin, known for his role in the popular movie “Home Alone,” recently explained why he decided to take a break from acting. He said he wanted to experience a more typical childhood and have the chance to connect with kids his age.
On the Mythical Kitchen podcast, Macaulay Culkin shared that he simply wanted to spend time with people his own age. He explained that much of his childhood work wasn’t a collaborative effort, saying, “It was just me doing things alone.”
He playfully pointed out how isolated he often was while filming, drawing a comparison to the movie “Cast Away.” He quipped, “When I watch ‘Home Alone,’ I realize it’s like being in ‘Cast Away,’ only I didn’t even have a volleyball to talk to!”
Following his role in the 1994 movie “Richie Rich,” Macaulay Culkin stepped away from acting to enjoy a normal life. He explained, “I just wanted to experience things like dating, making friends my age, and going to parties.” He also mentioned missing out on common childhood events, such as bar mitzvahs, because of his career.
Macaulay Culkin compared becoming famous to something you can’t undo, explaining, “Once it happens, you can’t take it back, just like you can’t put toothpaste back in the tube.”
You know, it’s always seemed like Macaulay Culkin just happened into fame, and he says that’s totally true! It wasn’t something he ever really chased. Apparently, his dad used to take his older siblings for acting headshots, and his mom just suggested bringing little Macaulay along for the ride. He says it was crazy – his very first audition led to him booking role after role. He puts it perfectly: he didn’t find acting, it found him! It’s a really interesting way to look at how his career started.
Macaulay Culkin made a comeback to acting in 2003 with the film “Party Monster.” He’s recently hinted that he might reprise his famous role as Kevin McCallister in a future “Home Alone” project.
While discussing his Nostalgic Night tour, Macaulay Culkin suggested a funny new take on ‘Home Alone’: what if Kevin’s dad was divorced or a widower, and Kevin accidentally locked him out, setting traps instead? Culkin said he’d be open to the idea if it were done well.
Macaulay Culkin shared a humorous story about his kids, Dakota and Carson, who are four and three years old respectively. Apparently, they don’t realize he’s the same Kevin McCallister from the ‘Home Alone’ movies!
