To celebrate the 35th anniversary of Home Alone, Macaulay Culkin is back as Kevin McCallister in a new ad campaign for Home Instead.

This time around, Kevin isn’t protecting his home from intruders. He’s now dedicated to making sure his mother doesn’t get hurt in everyday situations.

The “Home But Not Alone” campaign features Kevin helping his mom stay safe at home. He makes a thorough plan, taking steps like covering furniture with bubble wrap, putting salt on icy walkways, eliminating potential fire dangers, and securely fastening the carpet.

Kevin was on the phone with a sibling, expressing his concern for their mother being alone. He worried about her potentially falling or getting stuck if it snowed, and jokingly referenced an old, unsolved local case – the ‘South Bay Shovel Slayer’ – as a further reason for his worry.

Kevin was startled by the sound of a shovel scraping against the snow, but it turned out to be Old Man Marley’s granddaughter clearing the sidewalk. She suggested he talk to his wife about getting some assistance, and Kevin confessed he was hesitant to do so.

She told him the hardest part was simply beginning the conversation, and after that, at least he’d know where things stood and wouldn’t have to worry anymore. She acknowledged it wouldn’t be easy, but explained that feelings about family are often complex. Kevin was thrilled, exclaiming that the resemblance was uncanny – the face, the eyes, even the boots – and that it had given him goosebumps, praising her portrayal as perfect.

The campaign also features Kevin doing everyday things, like grocery shopping – a playful reference to his past mishap with a grocery bag – ordering pizza for his mother, and making sure she gets home safe and sound.

This campaign shows that Kevin McCallister is still the same lovable and resourceful character we remember, now using his skills to protect his family in a modern way.
