As a die-hard fan of Lupe Fiasco, I’m beyond excited about his recent announcement to revive Child Rebel Soldier (CRS) on his own. The group, consisting of Fiasco, Kanye West, and Pharrell Williams, made waves in the hip-hop scene back in 2007 with their unique style and collaborative energy. However, their disbanding in 2013 left fans feeling let down as they only released two singles together.
Lupe Fiasco, an American rapper and record producer, became more famous when he teamed up with Ye (formerly Kanye West) and Pharrell Williams to form hip-hop supergroup, Child Rebel Soldier (CRS), in 2007. However, the group disbanded in 2013. Lately, Fiasco has expressed his intentions of bringing back Child Rebel Soldier solo in interviews.
Will Lupe Fiasco revive the Child Rebel Soldier alone?
During a recent conversation with Stereogum, Fiasco surprised many by announcing his intention to bring back Child Rebel Soldier. This trio of notable rappers had previously disbanded following the release of only two singles, leaving their supporters feeling let down.
Fiasco expressed his intention to regenerate the group within the next half year to a year. Significantly, he intends to spearhead this effort single-handedly and rework the group’s style without involving Ye or Pharrell Williams.
Although Ye and Pharrell Williams are not involved, Fiasco is optimistic about reviving CRS (Carter Reporting Station) and rediscovering his initial zeal. He’s excited to rap over Radiohead instrumentals once more.
In my perspective as a devoted fan, Pharrell is currently at Louis Vituon, while Yeezy is presumably working in some factory producing socks. Given this situation, I’ve decided to take action and revive the Creative Radiosity Sessions (CRS) within the next six months or so. Tyler holds one of the CRS records. My intention is to restore its essence, which originally involved me laying down rhymes over Radiohead beats.
Lupe Fiasco reflected on the creation of Child Rebel Soldier
As an obsessed fan of Fiasco’s group, I can’t contain my excitement as I reflect on their recent comeback. I remember so vividly how the seeds of Child Rebel Soldier were sown. The trio’s formation was fueled by the innovative sound of Radiohead, a rock band that captivated us all. Yet, as we came together, there was one pressing concern: what would be the essence of our group?
In the beginning, it was just me, Kanye, and Pharrell forming our group. Pharrell handles the beats, Kanye produces them, and I contribute mine as well. However, we pondered, “What unique perspective will each of us bring to the table through rapping?” I chose to express the darker side of fame and luxury, which is something I’ve explored in my music, such as in “Us Placers.”
The group Child Rebel Soldier didn’t endure for a long time majorly because Ye and Pharrell Williams had packed schedules, leading to limited releases and activities from the duo. Now, it appears that Fiasco intends to revive Child Rebel Soldier without the involvement of Ye and Pharrell.
