Ludeon teases new RimWorld expansion

For enthusiasts of colony simulation games, RimWorld continues to be a perpetual source of delight: Once more, developer Ludeon Studios has tantalized us with news about an expansion for this popular PC game.

Ludeon unveiled the main artwork for their upcoming DLC on BlueSky, stirring debate among fans – this is now customary for the studio when announcing expansions. The intriguing key art appears to showcase a rugged, bearded explorer or scout accompanied by a tamed raven. Given items such as a compass, sample containers, and an animal that resembles a scout, we can infer this character is most likely an explorer. However, it could also represent a futuristic delivery man, similar to those in Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding – who knows?

What’s particularly captivating is the backdrop, which reveals tiny spacecraft and a bigger space station. This could suggest an enlargement of the gameplay within the overworld and the space element of the game, areas that have been largely unexplored in past DLCs and offer great potential for new mechanics and opportunities. However, it could also be that these elements are symbolic, signifying a broader enhancement to the game’s travel systems — as with anything like this, there’s always room for interpretation.

From the time it was launched in 2018, RimWorld has seen four expansion packs added to its gameplay elements and content: The Royalty Pack in 2020, The Ideology Pack in 2021, The Biotech Pack in 2022, and The Anomaly Pack in 2024.

Ludeon intends to reveal more information on June 11, 2025.
