As a lifestyle expert, I find Lucas Bravo‘s journey to landing the role of Chef Gabriel in Emily in Paris incredibly inspiring. His resilience and determination to seek solace amidst rejection are commendable. It’s fascinating to see how a brief escape to the mountains led him back to his dream role, proving that sometimes, stepping away can help us find our way forward.
Lucas Bravo recently revealed how he nearly lost the role of Chef Gabriel in Netflix’s hit series Emily in Paris. Bravo mentioned that he initially faced rejection when auditioning for the role of his co-star Lily Collins’ character Emily Cooper’s love interest in the series. Bravo shared he decided to retreat to the mountains on the French island of Corsica after not getting the part. Read on further to know more details!
In a recent interview with People magazine, Lucas Bravo shared why he escaped to the mountains after facing rejection. The publication noted that Bravo went through “five auditions” over several months but ultimately did not land the role of Gabriel, as he admitted that Paramount “didn’t want to take a chance on him” because he didn’t have “enough background.”
He said this led him to seek a brief escape to the Mediterranean island, saying, “I wanted to be in a place where there’s no service, and I could just talk to birds, so to speak.”
The performer remembered an instance when a trekker came up to him, requesting to use his phone. He pointed out that there was barely any cell reception, approximately 40 minutes’ walk away, atop a large boulder. Consequently, he lent his phone to the hiker, but the man vanished without a trace after that.
The actor explained that his colleague had advised him, “Your phone seemed to be buzzing intensely as soon as I got reception, so you might want to look into it.” However, he initially responded with a firm, “No, no, no. I’m here to distance myself from the Emily Paris situation.” Upon examining his phone, he discovered he had received around 40 messages and 30 missed calls, which were all from the casting director inquiring about his location.
The performer mentioned that he went back to Paris, however, he felt hesitant regarding the circumstances because “he had already signed his deal, participated in a rehearsal, and was on the verge of commencing,” pointing out that unexpectedly, it turned out he would be trying out for other romantic roles of Emily’s.
He said he went ahead with the chemistry read with his co-star Lily Collins, saying, “It went super well. Lily is very generous. When you dive into her eyes, it’s really easy to be connected to her.”
During the discussion following his reading, the actor shared that the team had queried his location when they contacted him, and he sheepishly disclosed he was in the mountains, helping a shepherd produce cheese from goats. In essence, he admitted to talking about goat cheese for an extended period due to feeling embarrassed.
Lucas Bravo said he eventually received a call and got the role, admitting that series creator Darren Star had “fought” for him, believing he was the right choice for the part from the beginning, noting he “went against the studio.”
Emily in Paris season 4 is currently streaming on Netflix.
