Luca Guadagnino Shares His Dream of Directing a Spider-Man Movie with Andrew Garfield: “I had these dreams because I’m kind of a megalomaniac”

As a diehard fan who has followed Andrew Garfield’s journey from humble beginnings to the web-slinging superhero, I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgic excitement when I hear about Luca Guadagnino‘s dream to direct him as Spider-Man. The idea of these two talented artists collaborating on such an iconic role is nothing short of a dream come true for me.

In the movies “The Amazing Spider-Man” from 2012 and its follow-up “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” in 2014, Andrew Garfield took on the role of Spider-Man (Peter Parker). Critics appreciated his performance for its likable qualities and deep emotional layers. However, these films garnered a variety of opinions from viewers.

Critics believed the initial film was robust but overly reminiscent of the original Spider-Man trilogy, whereas the second installment faced criticism for having too many plots and a lack of clarity. Nevertheless, Andrew Garfield’s portrayal of Spider-Man garnered a dedicated following, and his reappearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021) was met with much acclaim.

In addition to whispers about Garfield reprising his role as Spider-Man within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he is also set to feature in director Luca Guadagnino’s forthcoming suspenseful film titled “After the Hunt.

Lately, Andrew Garfield and director Luca Guadagnino have been discussing Garfield’s previous portrayal of the character Spider-Man.

At the Marrakech Film Festival, Garfield shared that he puts in effort to prevent being frequently questioned about Spider-Man, humorously noting that this is an ongoing struggle for him. He gratefully acknowledged his stint as the superhero, stating it opened doors for him to collaborate with skilled directors such as Martin Scorsese.

Following Garfield’s speech, Guadagnino expressed his admiration for Spider-Man as an “extraordinarily captivating superhero” and disclosed his ambition to helm the Spider-Man films starring Garfield.

Back when Sam Raimi helmed his first Spider-Man film, I was around 28 or 29 years old. Being somewhat of an egomaniac, I harbored dreams about being the one to direct it. If only I had been given the chance, I would have loved to be in charge of the Spider-Man production.
