The singer doesn’t watch much television, but she always makes time for The White Lotus. She shared with the magazine that she’s watched every season and is excited to see what the show’s creator, Mike White, comes up with next.
Lorde openly shared her thoughts on the latest season, expressing excitement about how daring the show was with its central plotline.
She admitted she surprisingly enjoyed the controversial scene involving the two brothers. She explained, “I really loved that storyline. I thought people were being too uptight and encouraged them to be bolder and more shocking. I wanted to see them really push the boundaries!”
About halfway through the season, the story focused on two brothers who’d been out drinking. The next morning, one of them began to suspect something had happened between them while they were intoxicated.
He tried to reconstruct the night from fragmented memories and what people told him later. But instead of showing worry, those around him dismissed it. One girl even said, “Everyone goes through things – it’s okay.”
Many viewers believed a particular scene went too far. Fans felt it downplayed a serious issue, portraying it as a reckless error in judgment rather than harmful behavior. Online, people argued the storyline normalized a situation involving siblings who lacked control, making it seem less serious than it was.
Reviewers noted that the characters’ responses seemed disrespectful, adding to the awkwardness of the scene.
As a big fan, I have to admit even though the brothers seemed upset later on, I didn’t think the show really dug deep enough into what they were feeling. Honestly, it wasn’t even the big twist itself that bothered most of us. It was how they handled it – it all felt so casual and rushed, like it wasn’t a huge deal. That’s really what caused all the negative reaction, I think.
