Long Bright River Trailer: Amanda Seyfried’s Cop Sets Out to Find Her Sister in Peacock’s Crime Thriller Series

The trailer for Peacock’s new crime thriller series titled Long Bright River, starring Amanda Seyfried, has been unveiled. This gripping drama, adapted from the popular novel of the same name by Liz Moore, focuses on a Philadelphia police officer named Mickey (played by Seyfried) who navigates her duties amidst an opioid epidemic.

Beyond completing her responsibilities, Mickey is also investigating leads to locate her missing sibling, who’s battling addiction and disappeared following the drug epidemic. Simultaneously, there’s an unidentified murderer at large, intensifying the urgency of Mickey’s quest.

For a number of days now, three women have been discovered deceased, as mentioned in the trailer’s narration. Mickey has reason to believe that someone is intentionally killing these women, perhaps as part of an effort to conceal a more significant crime. As she becomes increasingly driven to expose the truth, Mickey encounters obstacles from her higher-ups.

One supervisor notes that she’s letting her emotions interfere with her job as a patrol officer instead of an investigator, given the case at hand. The narrative centers around two siblings who are polar opposites—one being a dedicated law enforcer, while the other grapples with substance abuse issues.

Despite the external forces continuously driving them apart, a silent connection between the two sisters stays firm as ever. As a string of homicides unfolds within their community, Mickey comes to understand that her own past may hold keys to solving this mystery, as suggested by the plot summary.

In a press release, showrunner Nikki Toscano revealed what captivated her to develop this limited series. She was greatly intrigued by the thought-provoking premise of the crime thriller, which defies numerous stereotypes – those linked with people from impoverished and addictive backgrounds, individuals involved in sex work, and those who have been overlooked or sidelined.

Primarily, it goes against common assumptions about individuals in law enforcement. Interestingly, Amanda Seyfried, known for her role in Mean Girls, is not just a star in this series, but also holds the position of executive producer.

The eight-episode series is set to premiere on Peacock’s streaming platform on March 13.
