As a huge MCU fan, I’m honestly most disappointed that we still haven’t seen the Young Avengers team up! For years, throughout Phases 4 and 5, we kept getting introduced to characters who should be on that team – Kate Bishop, Kamala Khan, Eli Bradley, and the Maximoff twins. It felt like a Young Avengers project was right around the corner, but it never happened! All we got was a quick, funny scene in The Marvels after four years. But hey, at least we now know someone actually pitched a Young Avengers project, which is a little bit of hope!
During a recent Reddit Q&A about his new show, Chad Powers, creator Michael Waldron (known for Loki and Avengers: Doomsday) mentioned that he and writer Jeff Loveness once proposed a story idea featuring the Young Avengers battling a version of Kang from across the multiverse.
One Redditor asked Waldron the following:
Since you worked on the script for Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, and without giving away any secrets, did anything you learned during the early stages of that film help you when writing the new Avengers: Doomsday movie?
Waldron didn’t directly address the question, but he did share a noteworthy story.
Jeff Loveness and I came up with a story idea where the Young Avengers fought a version of Kang, and we were really excited about it. But then we found out this Kang was new to the job – he literally had a card saying to be patient with him! It was a bit of a letdown. We thought he might end up being the lizard-like Kang seen in Kang Dynasty, but we weren’t sure. Still, it was a fun brainstorming session.
Aaron Waldron and Jeff Loveness appeared to be a perfect fit to write a story about the Young Avengers facing off against Kang the Conqueror. Waldron’s work on Loki introduced both Kang and a young version of Loki to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He also wrote the introduction of America Chavez in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Loveness continued to develop Kang’s story with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which also featured the first appearance of Cassie Lang as Stature.

It’s no secret Marvel dropped Kang as the villain for the next Avengers movie. While Kevin Feige claims the decision stemmed from a lack of public interest in the character – and not at all from the legal issues surrounding Jonathan Majors – the project has now been rebranded as Avengers: Doomsday, with Matthew Waldron helping to write the script. Even with this change, there still seemed like room for the Young Avengers to appear somewhere in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, perhaps before the current heroes retire.
