Lizzo Breaks Silence On Sexual Harassment Lawsuit; Denies Claims After Being Dismissed From Separate Case

As a fervent fan who has witnessed Lizzo‘s meteoric rise to fame and her unwavering commitment to body positivity, I find myself grappling with the recent allegations against her. Having followed her journey closely, it seems incongruous that someone so fiercely advocating for inclusivity and self-love could be implicated in such accusations.

In response to allegations of inappropriate behavior, body shaming, and fostering an unpleasant work atmosphere, which were brought up after a legal claim was made by Lizzo’s ex-dancers, the award-winning musician has spoken out publicly about these matters.

In this conversation, it marks Lizzo’s initial comprehensive discussion since the accusations emerged. Her comments shed light on her point of view. During the interview, she expresses her shock over the lawsuits, while also standing up for her actions and defending her name.

Back in August 2023, Arianna Davis, Crystal Williams, and Noelle Rodriguez – once part of Lizzo’s dance team – decided to take legal action by filing a lawsuit against the singer in the Los Angeles Superior Court.

The individuals involved in Lizzo’s 2022 performance “Watch Out for the Big Grrrls” claimed they experienced unfair treatment at work, such as sexual harassment, weight discrimination, and aggressive behavior during practice sessions. The lawsuit suggests that Davis and Williams were dismissed from the show, while Rodriguez chose to step down earlier in 2023.

The lawsuit further described an occurrence during a visit to Amsterdam, where it was alleged that the dancers were forced to take part in questionable actions at a nightclub offering adult entertainment. Davis asserted that Lizzo persuaded her against her continuous objections to touch one of the performers’ breasts.

In a critique, Ron Zambrano, the legal representative of the plaintiffs, expressed his disapproval towards Lizzo’s behavior, suggesting that her actions towards the performers, as well as her management team, appear to contradict the values and image she promotes publicly.

As a die-hard fan, I can’t help but share Lizzo’s heartfelt words when she opened up about the lawsuit that caught her off guard. In an exclusive chat with Keke Palmer on Baby, she poured out her emotions following the revelation of the allegations, expressing deep pain because these dancers were individuals she had offered chances to and held in high regard.

Lizzo expressed that she felt quite profoundly hurt because the three former dancers weren’t part of the tour. They didn’t complete the tour with us, but even beyond that, these were individuals who I provided opportunities to. These were people whom I admired and valued as dancers, respecting them for their skills in dance.

In spite of the legal hurdles, Lizzo stands firm on her innocence, asserting that she’s done nothing wrong and has no regrets. She’s using this knowledge gained from the experience to ready herself for her new leadership position. Moreover, she expresses no animosity towards her former dancers, acknowledging that while her management style wasn’t always flawless, it doesn’t change her feelings towards them.

The legal claim additionally asserted that Lizzo imposed challenging work environments on the dancers, such as lengthy 12-hour practice sessions. It is claimed that she established a setting in which dancers felt anxious about potentially losing their positions if they did not live up to her expectations.

In her response, Lizzo pointed out numerous discrepancies and instances that supposedly didn’t occur, contradicting the accusations of poor treatment in the workplace.

Lizzo admitted that her time as a leader taught her some important lessons, which she plans to apply differently moving forward. Instead of treating her team members like acquaintances, she vowed to handle them with a more formal approach in the future.

In a separate legal matter, Lizzo was recently dismissed from a lawsuit filed by her former wardrobe designer, Asha Daniels. Daniels had accused the singer of harassment, but the case was thrown out earlier this month.
