Live-Action DUNGEONS & DRAGONS Series, FORGOTTEN REALMS, Coming to Netflix

A cherished tale from the realm of Dungeons & Dragons is being brought to life as a new Netflix series, titled Forgotten Realms. As reported by Deadline, Shawn Levy, known for producing Stranger Things and directing Deadpool and Wolverine, is leading the charge on this project for the streaming service. Drew Crevello serves as showrunner along with Hasbro Entertainment, who are also part of the creative team. Interestingly, a Dungeons & Dragons series was in development for Paramount+ but never came to fruition. The Forgotten Realms series is rooted in one of the most renowned campaign settings in D&D history and will not be connected to the recent film, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves.

The fantasy world of Forgotten Realms gained significant fame due to numerous novels by authors like R. A. Salvatore, which emerged from the late ’80s and early ’90s. Moreover, several well-liked video games are set within the Forgotten Realms, including titles such as Pool of Radiance, Eye of the Beholder, Icewind Dale, and Neverwinter Nights. The Baldur’s Gate series, particularly renowned, contributed to this popularity. Given the focus Stranger Things brought to the realm of Dungeons & Dragons, it’s not surprising that some of the same creative minds would be involved and the series would find a home on Netflix.

Titled “Forgotten Realms,” this fictional land is, in essence, Faerûn, a sprawling fantasy continent that bears resemblance to Europe and Asia in its western regions. Various human, dwarven, elven, goblin, orc, and other peculiar species govern the numerous kingdoms scattered across this realm. The concept of “Forgotten Realms” originated from game designer Ed Greenwood, who built it upon stories he created as a child. As for its arrival on Netflix, no specific date has been announced, but fans may not see it before 2026 at the earliest.
