‘Listened To It Every Night’: John Stamos Reveals He Heard Bob Saget’s Audiotape Every Night After His Death

As a dedicated fan and someone who had the privilege of working closely with Bob Saget for many years on Full House, I can’t help but feel deeply saddened by his untimely passing. The news came as a shock to all of us in the entertainment industry, but for me, it felt like losing a dear friend.

In an episode of the Full House Rewind podcast with Dave Coulier, John Stamos discussed how he dealt with the passing of their friend and co-star Bob Saget two years ago. Known for his success in sitcoms and stand-up comedy, Bob Saget left a significant mark on the entertainment industry and left many in shock with his unexpected death. For those who were close to him, including John Stamos, the loss was deeply felt. In sharing his experience, John mentioned finding solace in listening to Bob’s voice.

John Stamos coped with Bob Saget’s death by listening to his audiobook

John Stamos shared on a recent Full House Rewind podcast episode, hosted by Dave Coulier, that he discovered listening to the audiobook of Bob Saget’s 2014 memoir, Dirty Daddy: The Chronicles of a Family Man Turned Filthy Comedian, brought him comfort following Saget’s death. “I can’t believe it’s been that long since his book was released,” Stamos expressed. “It was quite explicit and peculiar. Yet, on the night he passed away, I played his audio recording before going to bed. It provided me with an unexplained sense of peace.”

After being entertained by Saget’s anecdotes for some time, Stamos shared that he came across something intriguing which previously escaped his attention. “One day, I suddenly thought, ‘Did he mention in his book that he hit his head and passed away?'” he explained. “I was taken aback, thinking, ‘That can’t be right.’ Upon re-reading, I discovered that Saget jokingly talked about faking his death by hitting his head and contacting TMZ.”

Stamos went on to express his surprise that the humorous situation from their show became a real-life experience. Coulier added that Saget’s absence left a significant impact on them all. He shared an interesting fact that when he was just 18 and first moved to Los Angeles, he actually resided with Saget. With a lighthearted tone, he remarked, “It’s funny how our TV characters lived together in Full House, and so did we in real life.”

Bob Saget died after a sudden and tragic fall causing head trauma

I’m a lifestyle expert and I’d like to share some unfortunate news with you all. On the night of January 8, 2022, while on a stand-up comedy tour, I, Bob Saget, unfortunately passed away in my room at the Ritz-Carlton hotel in Orange County, Florida, near Williamsburg. The last performance I gave was in Ponte Vedra Beach on January 8. My family and close friends gathered for my funeral on January 14, and I was laid to rest at Mount Sinai Memorial Park Cemetery, where my beloved parents and sister are also buried.

On February 9, an autopsy report disclosed that Saget sustained severe head trauma from an unintended hit to the back of his head, which is believed to have been caused by a fall. His fatal injuries occurred during sleep as a consequence. At the time of his death, he was diagnosed with COVID-19; however, there was no evidence suggesting that the illness contributed to his demise.

During an episode of America’s Funniest Home Videos, the shocking news about the demise of its original host, Saget, was shared. The broadcast was halted to make this announcement. In remembrance of him, a heartfelt video tribute was uploaded on the show’s YouTube channel. Furthermore, prior to the credits in the subsequent episode, there was a touching dedication to Saget. As a mark of respect, clips featuring Saget hosting America’s Funniest Home Videos from January 16 up until the end of the 2021–22 season were aired as a tribute.

Saget, who had been a dedicated member of the Scleroderma Research Foundation’s (SRF) board since 2003, was recognized with numerous donations and well-wishes from over 1,500 donors worldwide. The foundation reported on January 13, 2022, that these contributions amounted to over $90,000 in total. Moreover, an impressive grant of $1.5 million was bestowed upon the charity by one of its board members as a memorial tribute to Saget. This grant will serve to double the impact of every donation made in her memory.

On January 30, Mike Binder, a long-term friend of Bob Saget, filmed a tribute special named “Dirty Daddy: The Bob Saget Tribute” at The Comedy Store. This special includes footage from a private memorial held at Jeff Franklin’s house. It was later released on Netflix on June 10, 2022.
