During Disney’s D23 expo held in Anaheim, California on August 9th, these two actresses discussed the upcoming movie, revealed details about the relationship they’ve developed over time, and even joked about who they would like to be for a day.
In an exciting turn of events, it’s confirmed that Freaky Friday 2 is eagerly anticipated, following the success of the 2003 film. The original stars, Lohan and Curtis, expressed their enthusiasm about joining the cast once again. In the initial movie, Lohan portrayed Anna Coleman and Curtis played Tess Coleman, a mother-daughter duo who swap bodies through an enigmatic event. After over two decades, they’re ready to delve deeper into these cherished roles.
In addition, some familiar faces from the original lineup including Mark Harmon, Chad Michael Murray, and Christina Vidal Mitchell are set to reappear. Newcomers Manny Jacinto and Julia Butters will also join the cast. The film is helmed by Nisha Ganatra and is scheduled for a 2025 theater release.
At the D23 event, during an intimate chat that PEOPLE magazine shared, I found myself reminiscing with Chad Michael Murray about our journey since our debut in “Freaky Friday.” He mused on our bonding moments, particularly noting, “Lindsay was just turning 16 when we filmed Freaky Friday. It was a breakthrough for both of us.” Moreover, he hinted at the rare friendship I shared with Lindsay among young actors in the industry.
At thirty-eight, Lindsay finds her realization aligning as well; she now grasps the depth of appreciation and enduring love for the original movie. “As I grow older, witnessing the lasting affection it holds in hearts and seeing it reside in so many homes, that’s when you truly comprehend its profound effect on people and its tremendous success,” she expressed.
However, Lohan’s response wasn’t only touching; it also revealed an intriguing wish. When asked who she would trade bodies with in reality, Lohan expressed a deep emotional desire. She yearned to be Luai Shammas, her one-year-old son, for a single day, simply to experience the world through his innocent perspective. On the other hand, Curtis offered a contrasting response. Instead of choosing a family member, she named WNBA star Caitlin Clark as someone whose body she’d like to temporarily possess, just to grasp what it’s like to play basketball with her skill and talent.
