In a fresh take on the storyline preceding “Friday the 13th,” the television series titled “Crystal Lake” has chosen Linda Cardellini to portray the unstable mother of the infamous slasher villain, Jason Voorhees.

Cardellini is recognized for her roles as Velma in the “Scooby-Doo” film series, in “Dead to Me,” for her appearances in Marvel movies, and for providing the voice of a character in James Gunn’s “Creature Commandos.

What is Crystal Lake about?

Crystal Lake represents a prequel series to the well-known Friday the 13th films, with Linda Cardellini portraying Pamela Voorhees. According to the description, Pamela is depicted as a mother who abandoned her singing career to raise a child with special needs. However, she undergoes a drastic change following the loss of her son, which leads to darker events.

Who is Pamela Voorhees?

Pamela Voorhees, a woman consumed by grief and vengeance, ignites the chain of events that lead to the entire ‘Friday the 13th’ series. Her tragic story unfolds when her son Jason is believed to have drowned at Camp Crystal Lake as a result of the carelessness of its counselors. Haunted by this loss, she develops psychological issues. Years later, upon the camp’s reopening, Pamela makes a chilling return and starts killing the new staff members in an attempt to keep the camp closed forever.

In the initial scenes, Pamela comes across as an innocuous older lady. However, it’s later unveiled that she was the ruthless perpetrator of the gruesome murders depicted in the first movie. She zealously guards Jason, whom she thinks is still alive in some form, and even claims to hear his voice instructing her to commit murder. Her character is presented as loving and devoted, but warped by sorrow and madness.

She was played by Betsy Palmer in the original Friday the 13th film released in 1980.
