Lin-Manuel Miranda Will Replace James Van Der Beek in DAWSON’S CREEK Reunion

I’m so excited that the *Dawson’s Creek* reunion is finally happening! I didn’t want to wait any longer. Luckily, the event is scheduled for September 22nd. The original cast will be reading the script from the very first episode to raise money for F Cancer and support James Van Der Beek, who shared his diagnosis of stage three colorectal cancer earlier this year. Sadly, James won’t be able to participate, but Lin-Manuel Miranda will be stepping in to take his place.

Okay, so this is wild! Apparently, Lin-Manuel Miranda – you know, the guy who created *Hamilton* and is basically a ten-dollar founding father without a father himself – is going to fill in as Dawson for this one-time event. Honestly, I did *not* see that coming, but it’s amazing news! The whole thing is happening at the Richard Rodgers Theater in New York City, where *Hamilton* usually plays. And, just to fill us in, Joshua Jackson (Dawson) isn’t feeling great – a stomach bug – and shared all the details with fans.

I’d been really excited about this event ever since Michelle Williams told me about it back in January,” he wrote. “I was so disappointed when I got hit with two stomach viruses right before it, keeping me home when I really needed to be there. No matter what I tried, I couldn’t make it.

I do have an understudy, though – someone incredibly talented who would have been my top choice if I’d known he was available. My kids actually think he’s better than me! Plus, he already knows how to get to the theater, which is great. Lin-Manuel Miranda will be taking over the role of ‘Dawson,’ normally played by James Van Der Beek. I still can’t believe I’m writing that!

We were surprised to learn that Lin-Manuel Miranda will be joining the cast of the *Dawson’s Creek* reunion! Michelle Williams, Katie Holmes, Joshua Jackson, and the original cast members-including Mary Beth Peil, John Wesley Shipp, Mary-Margaret Humes, Nina Repeta, and Kerr Smith-will be participating. Busy Philipps, Kerr Smith, and Meredith Monroe joined the show after the first season, but everyone will be performing scenes from the very first episode, the 1998 pilot. It’s wonderful to see them all reuniting for a good cause.
