As a devoted friend and confidant of the late music sensation Liam Payne, I, Roger Nores, have decided to withdraw my defamation lawsuit against Liam’s father, Geoff Payne. In accordance with Rolling Stone, this dismissal was made voluntarily on the 8th of April. Previously, I had been cleared of an involuntary manslaughter charge associated with Liam’s tragic passing in Argentina during October 2024.
In my professional capacity as a lifestyle expert, I found myself embroiled in a legal dispute with Geoff, stemming from accusations he made against me in sworn declarations to Argentine authorities. The lawsuit I initiated sought redress for approximately USD 10 million in damages, arguing that these unfounded statements tarnished my reputation, particularly within the Palm Beach County community in Florida, USA.
Initially, Nores claimed that Geoff Payne had misrepresented his position in Liam Payne’s life and exaggerated his involvement in the unfortunate events leading to his death. He asserted that these statements, which were obtained in the U.S., significantly damaged his reputation on a massive scale.
The lawsuit additionally alleged that Geoff failed to include crucial details in his statements, and placed blame on Nores for the incident. In response on January 10th, Liam’s estate denied any need to retract their statements, instead accusing Nores of trying to influence a police investigation by forcing Geoff to modify his sworn testimony.
The estate stated that Nores’ idea of giving any possible damages to Liam’s son with Cheryl Cole was unnecessary, since it could inflict permanent harm on the child instead.
Regarding the ongoing court case, Nores asserts that he harbors no ill feelings towards Geoff. In a recent email to Richard Bray, lawyer for Liam’s estate, Nores expressed, “There’s no need for Geoff to offer an apology.
He recounted a heartfelt moment from their stay in Argentina. “The very first night at the ranch, Geoff approached me after I had welcomed him from the airport, and asked me to pledge never to abandon Liam, no matter the circumstances,” Nores penned down. “I honored that commitment until the very end, and it wasn’t easy.
He mentioned that even though events unfolded as they did, with Geoff confessing to the authorities that it was entirely his fault, he would gladly repeat the action a hundred times if given the chance, as he adored Liam deeply and yearned for him daily.
In October 2024, it’s tragically reported that Liam Payne, a previous member of One Direction, passed away following a fall from the third-floor balcony at CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Nores, who was with him during his last days, underwent an investigation but was subsequently absolved of any criminal accusations.
