As a fervent fan who has followed Liam Payne’s journey since his days with One Direction, this news hits close to home. It’s heartbreaking to see such a talented individual and a beloved figure struggle with personal demons that ultimately led to his tragic passing.
Liam Payne’s family is planning to take personal legal action against those linked to his death, as reported by Page Six. On November 26, the lawyers representing Payne’s family were present in an Argentinian court to assign their potential future legal cases to a local law firm in Buenos Aires.
This move would make Payne’s family plaintiffs in any criminal case going forward.
For the first time during the ongoing investigations surrounding his death at the CasaSur Palermo hotel in Buenos Aires on October 16, Payne’s family has been brought into public discussion. This revelation comes after the publication of harrowing photos depicting his last moments.
The investigation took a grim turn as police released images of the Teardrops singer behaving strangely in the hotel lobby, only moments before it’s said he fell from his hotel room balcony. According to TMZ, security camera footage and a police report suggest that Payne fell while trying to break free from his locked room. Staff at the hotel are accused of knowing he threatened to use the balcony as an escape route, but they still confined him in his suite.
Striking security footage reveals a visibly drunk Payne being escorted by several hotel employees back to his room on the third floor. Upon arrival, he allegedly resisted them and attempted unsuccessfully to re-enter the elevator. With no other choice, they locked him in his room and dialed 911, expressing worry that he could potentially endanger himself by using the balcony. Even though Payne wasn’t explicitly mentioned during the call, the recording published soon after his passing confirmed him as the individual in question.
Earlier, Payne had voiced his discontent about spending most of One Direction’s fame era within hotel rooms.
Criminal lawyer Nicolas Durrieu based in Buenos Aires indicated to Page Six that if hotel personnel left Payne unattended, knowing his precarious mental condition, they might potentially be held accountable for the offense of “abandoning an individual.” This charge could result in a sentence of up to 15 years.
A separate Page Six source, meanwhile, told the outlet they were 100% sure that Payne’s family would want to seek justice for him.
The police have accused two employees of a hotel for supposedly giving drugs to Payne, and one of the singer’s friends is being looked at closely due to not helping him when he needed it most.
