Daniel Neeson, son of actor Liam Neeson, recently revealed he had heart surgery. In a social media post on March 3rd, the 29-year-old explained he was born with a bicuspid aortic valve – a heart defect he’s lived with his whole life – and recently had an operation to fix it.
Neeson has a rare heart condition where his aortic valve has only two flaps instead of the usual three. Because of this, he regularly visited a cardiologist twice a year to keep track of his heart health and watch for any problems, such as an enlarged aorta.
He always knew he might need heart surgery someday, but recent tests showed a problem with his heart’s main pumping chamber – it was significantly enlarged. He realized he was facing this sooner than expected and jokingly said he’d gotten the short end of the stick when it came to timing the surgery.

Looking back, he described realizing he had a long-term health issue as unreal, something that had been building up slowly over time. He emphasized there were no obvious signs beforehand; it was simply a result of his genes and what science revealed.
Going through this experience meant the entrepreneur had to give up his need to be in control and fully trust his doctors and nurses. He explained it wasn’t about being brave, but about embracing the body’s natural ability to heal and staying focused on recovery.
Neeson didn’t see his operation as just a typical medical event. He described it as a meaningful ceremony, rather than a simple procedure. He also encouraged everyone to take charge of their heart health, recommending regular check-ups with a specialist, even if they feel fine.
In an update on his recovery, he emphasized the power of staying positive, encouraging others to focus on the present and let go of constant worry. He also expressed deep gratitude for his fiancée, Natalie Ackerman, who has been his partner since they got engaged in late 2025 after almost ten years together. Meanwhile, his father, Liam Neeson, is enjoying a career comeback with the recent release of the new The Naked Gun movie.
