As someone who has lived through the raw energy and unapologetic spirit of Oasis in the ’90s, I can say with confidence that Liam Gallagher‘s reaction to James Austin Johnson and Sarah Sherman’s impersonation on SNL is quite relatable. It’s like watching a caricature of my own life played out for laughs, and as much as I appreciate humor, there are certain lines that shouldn’t be crossed.
Liam Gallagher isn’t finding the comedic portrayal of him and his brother by James Austin Johnson and Sarah Sherman on SNL amusing. Last Sunday, the 51-year-old musician voiced his displeasure on social media, expressing doubts about the duo’s abilities as comedians.
After a fan inquired about Liam’s opinion on a Weekend Update sketch that intensely satirized their Manchester accents and longstanding feud, while frequently employing the term “legend”, the Oasis frontman candidly admitted he found it to be quite “painful” at worst.
In a follow-up post, another fan told Liam that SNL did him “dirty,” to which he responded, “I wouldn’t expect anything else from them.”
“Are they meant to be comedians?” he wrote of Johnson and Sherman to another supporter.
As a devoted admirer, I wholeheartedly concurred with the fan’s statement that my brother and I are significantly more amusing than Saturday Night Live impressions. To put it simply, I completely agree with their assessment by stating, “Exactly.
At 31 years old, one half of the skit’s duo, Sherman, seemed unfazed by Liam Gallagher’s critique, responding with the word “LEGEND” on social media.
Since late August, Liam and Noel Gallagher have been in headlines due to their announcement of rekindling Oasis for a return tour. The much-awaited Oasis Live ’25 concerts will take place at various stadiums throughout the U.K. and Ireland next summer, followed by a move to North America in August.
As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to share that the long-awaited reunion news has surfaced! For those unaware, this momentous occasion marks 15 years since the brothers’ high-profile split back in 2009. In an official statement on August 27, Oasis declared, “The battlefields have quieted. The cosmos has conspired. The grand anticipation has reached its end. Witness it for yourself. This spectacle will not be broadcast.
Although they traveled together, Liam clarified last week that the duo won’t take part in shared publicity events, as they’re wary of the press probing into their relationship due to their longstanding rift.
In October of 1997, the Gallagher brothers made an appearance on Saturday Night Live, with Matthew Perry, who has since passed away, serving as the host for that episode. When asked if they had a friendly rapport with Matthew Perry during interactions with fans on a Sunday X-show, Liam admitted that he can’t recall being part of the SNL show at all.
