Leonardo DiCaprio has been considering the future of film, particularly how artificial intelligence will change things.
In a recent Time magazine interview, he discussed how advancements in technology might change the movie industry. While he expressed concern that some film professionals could lose work, he also highlighted the exciting opportunities artificial intelligence could bring to aspiring filmmakers.
DiCaprio shared that while he doesn’t want AI to replace artists, he sees potential for it to help filmmakers expand on their visions.
He explained that the technology could help new filmmakers create truly original work, emphasizing that its main benefit is its ability to enhance their creative process.
Leonardo DiCaprio also questions whether work created by AI can ever truly be considered art. He notes that while AI-generated content online can be entertaining, it rarely has lasting impact. According to DiCaprio, genuine art must originate from human creativity and emotion.
DiCaprio explained that while AI-generated mashups can initially sound amazing – like fake collaborations with artists such as Michael Jackson or unexpected combinations of musical styles – their appeal doesn’t last. He described them as “brilliant,” but added that they quickly become fleeting internet trends. They lack a lasting quality because, despite being technically impressive, they don’t have the human connection that makes music truly memorable.
He acknowledges the benefits of AI, but feels genuine emotional connection still needs to come from human interaction, not technology.
