For nearly a decade, it’s been seven years since we last saw a truly exceptional LEGO Batman game. However, in the year 2026, the LEGO version of the iconic superhero is set to return to action! Warner Bros. Games, TT Games, DC Comics, and LEGO have officially announced their latest creation: LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight. Unlike its predecessors which were heavily influenced by the comic book version of Batman, this new game draws primarily from the various movie adaptations throughout the years. You can catch a glimpse of the first trailer for LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight right here: [trailer link]
In this trailer, not just Danny Elfman’s famous Batman (1989) theme plays, but it’s filled with references back to the movies. We witness Bruce Wayne’s origin story and his battle against the League of Shadows, similar to Batman Begins. There are scenes reminiscent of The Dark Knight, along with a light-hearted jab at Tom Hardy’s Bane voice from The Dark Knight Rises. The trailer even includes a nod to the romantic moment between Batman and Catwoman, as seen in Batman Returns. The warehouse fight from Batman v Superman, featuring Ben Affleck, is also included. A thrilling chase scene with the Penguin and the Batmobile, similar to The Batman, can be spotted as well. We didn’t catch any references to the Joel Schumacher Bat-films this time, but we’re certain they’ll get their due.
In a statement, DC Comics president Jim Lee said the following:
As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to share that this game encapsulates virtually every aspect of Batman’s multifaceted legacy. Whether it’s the brooding Dark Knight, the astute detective, or the unexpected patriarch of the ‘Batfam,’ his ever-evolving character is a testament to the world shaping him while preserving his timeless essence as an icon. This game brings together nearly every facet of what makes Batman truly iconic. Meticulously crafted with care, creativity, and a deep reverence for the mythos, TT Games has essentially penned a heartfelt ode to the world of Batman.
As a die-hard Batman fan, I get to enjoy an array of gadgets such as the grapple launcher and the Batglider in this game. To top it off, there’s a fleet of Batmobiles and Batcycles at my disposal. The best part? I can personalize my own Batcave to showcase vehicles, trophies, and collectibles that I’ve earned throughout my journey. Not to forget, there’s an extensive collection of Batsuits modeled after various Batman-themed media to choose from. And here’s a fun fact for fellow fans: By creating a WB Games account, you can unlock the original 1939 Batsuit, inspired by Batman’s debut in Detective Comics #27!
In addition to the single-player experience in LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, there will also be a cooperative mode that lets players join forces with one of Batman’s friends such as Robin or Commissioner Gordon. Could it be possible that the game version of Robin might resemble Chris O’Donnell from the movies? The anticipated release date for LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is 2026 on platforms like Xbox Series X|S, PS5, Nintendo Switch 2, and personal computers.
