Lee Cronin’s ‘The Mummy’ Trailer Unearths a Twisted New Take on the Classic Monster

The first trailer for Lee Cronin’s The Mummy is here, and it suggests a fresh, scary take on the classic horror story.

“Some things are meant to stay buried,” teases the trailer description.

The new film from Evil Dead Rise director Lee Cronin is being teased with that unsettling phrase. He’s moving away from the action-packed style of his previous hit and instead delivering a psychological horror take on The Mummy.

A Family’s Nightmare Begins

A journalist’s young daughter disappears in the desert and is presumed dead. Eight years later, she unexpectedly returns home, but she’s not the same. The family’s happiness turns to terror as they realize an ancient and terrifying evil has come back with her.

A Horror Dream Team

The movie features Jack Reynor, Laia Costa, May Calamawy, Natalie Grace, and Veronica Falcón. It’s written and directed by director Ryan Cronin, and produced by renowned horror filmmakers James Wan (known for The Conjuring) and Jason Blum (known for The Invisible Man and M3GAN), along with John Keville. This project marks the first time New Line Cinema, Atomic Monster, and Blumhouse have collaborated on a monster movie.

I’m really excited to see that Lee Cronin is working with the same incredible team from Evil Dead Rise again! He’s brought back Dave Garbett as the cinematographer, Bryan Shaw for editing, and Nick Bassett as production designer – they clearly did amazing work together. Plus, Stephen McKeon is composing the music, and Joanna Eatwell is handling costumes. Terri Taylor and Sarah Domeier Lindo were responsible for casting, and I have a feeling they’ve found another fantastic group of actors.

A Theatrical Horror Event

Warner Bros. Pictures will release Lee Cronin’s new take on The Mummy in theaters and IMAX on April 17, 2026. Moviegoers in some international locations will be able to see it starting April 15.

Previous Mummy movies focused on exciting adventures and ancient myths, but this new version seems to prioritize a creepy atmosphere, intense fear, and the emotional scars of its characters—a style that horror fans who prefer darker, more realistic, and truly frightening stories will likely appreciate.
