Wow, this movie really delivers! I wasn’t expecting much from a new mummy film – I’ve never been particularly frightened by mummies. But this one is genuinely creepy, unsettling, and incredibly imaginative. Still, it makes sense that director Lee Cronin could reinvent the story; he did the same thing with the Evil Dead franchise, creating the fantastic Evil Dead Rise in 2023. Here’s the official description from Warner Bros. of his latest take on the classic tale:
A journalist’s young daughter vanishes in the desert, and eight years later, her return home should be a happy moment. Instead, it becomes a terrifying ordeal for her family.
Okay, so the movie’s tagline – “For dust you are” – is… something. It’s incredibly short, and honestly, it’s a bit of a mess, but in a way that almost works? It’s certainly memorable, even if it’s not exactly a glowing endorsement. It’s strangely compelling in its bluntness, and I have to admit, it’s stuck in my head.
The new film, Lee Cronin’s The Mummy, features Jack Reynor, Laia Costa, May Calamawy, Natalie Grace, and Veronica Falcón. James Wan, Jason Blum, and John Keville produced the movie, which will be released in North American theaters and IMAX on April 17, 2026, following a global premiere two days earlier.
Even though I saw it a couple of days early, I have a feeling everyone will realize after watching this movie that sometimes, it’s better to let things stay gone.
