Leaked ‘Kung Fury 2’ Footage Shows Fassbender, Schwarzenegger in Epic 80s Action!

Shades of Deadpool!

A 10-minute preview clip of the yet-to-be-released Kung Fury 2 has surfaced on the internet, originating from the David Sandberg film that was initially unveiled in 2015 and shot in 2019.

Originally intended as a sequel to the popular 2015 short film, “Kung Fury 2” was planned to continue the story set in 1985, focusing on Kung Fury – Miami’s most formidable martial arts police officer. He journeys back through time to eliminate the most notorious criminal of all – Kung Fuhrer Hitler. Unfortunately, “Kung Fury 2” was never made available for viewing.

In the video you’re about to see, Sandberg reprises her role as the main character. Joining her is Michael Fassbender portraying Colt Magnum, a top FBI agent with a mullet. Arnold Schwarzenegger takes on the role of the President. David Hasselhoff lends his voice to Hoff 9000 in this movie. The ensemble faces off against “A. Hitler,” played by Jorma Taccone. Alexandra Shipp from X-Men appears as Rey Porter in the film as well.

David Sanderg confirms leak

Variety has confirmed the leak is legit. Sandberg even commented:

This video was intended solely for our team members, not intended for public viewing. It’s disappointing because it reveals key storylines and temporary special effects. Still, I hope that the enthusiasm and dedication we’ve put into this movie can be felt. The world should experience it in its intended form. Unfortunately, this film has been delayed for five years now, but rest assured, I will continue to advocate for it until it gets the opportunity it truly deserves.

What happened?

2019 saw the completion of filming for Kung Fury 2, which took place in both Bulgaria and Germany. However, post-production came to a halt in 2020 due to a legal disagreement between the producers and their Chinese financiers, Creasun, causing a hold-up in the project.

In October, Creasun Entertainment USA was taken to court by the filmmakers for not delivering a pledged $10 million as agreed. This lack of payment led to the termination of the project.

According to Variety’s report, Creasun countered the lawsuit by stating it as groundless and claiming their authority to oversee the film production, with minimal advancement on the project since then.

Will Kung Fury 2 ever be released?

It’s unfortunate that there might not be a release for Kung Fury 2, given its reported $34 million budget and the enticing footage we’ve seen so far.

According to Variety’s report, it’s interesting to note that the leak coincides with the commencement of the Cannes Film Festival, where Sandberg initially unveiled the short film in 2015.

It’s noteworthy that Ryan Reynolds shared the initial test footage for Deadpool, which sparked such a massive response from fans that it ultimately led to the production of the first Deadpool film. More recently, the combination of Deadpool and Wolverine has earned over $1.3 billion at the box office.

Maybe history will repeat itself and Kung Fury 2 will see the light of day, which it deserves.
