10. ‘The Real Housewives of Miami’ (2011–2013; 2021– )
‘The Real Housewives of Miami’ follows the lives of women who are prominent in Miami’s social and business scenes. Each season combines glamorous events with the personal stories of the cast, which includes Alexia Nepola, Larsa Pippen, Lisa Hochstein, Guerdy Abraira, Nicole Martin, and Julia Lemigova. Returning cast members and their friends often appear at parties, charity events, and group trips, driving the season’s storylines.
The series first aired on cable television and was later brought back with new seasons, all produced by Purveyors of Pop. Each season culminates in reunion episodes led by Andy Cohen. Throughout the show, cameras follow the businesses, families, and relationships of the cast, capturing their stories through interviews, group scenes, and ongoing storylines.
9. ‘The Voice’ (2011– )
“The Voice” is a singing competition where coaches discover talented artists through blind auditions. These coaches then mentor their chosen singers through a series of challenges – battles, knockouts, and live performances – as they compete for the title. Carson Daly hosts the show, and over the years, coaches have included popular artists like Blake Shelton, Kelly Clarkson, Gwen Stefani, John Legend, Ariana Grande, and Reba McEntire.
Inspired by a format created by John de Mol, the American version of the show is made by MGM Television and Warner Horizon Unscripted Television, working with international partners. Live shows are enhanced with music, legal permissions, and celebrity guests. The competition features judges turning their chairs for promising singers, opportunities for singers to be ‘stolen’ by other judges, and ultimately, viewer voting to determine a seasonal winner.
8. ‘The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City’ (2020– )
‘The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City’ showcases the lives of a group of women as they balance their friendships, careers, and religious beliefs in the Salt Lake City area. The main cast includes Heather Gay, Meredith Marks, Lisa Barlow, Whitney Rose, and Angie Katsanevas, and the show has also featured other women who’ve influenced the group’s relationships over the seasons.
This show, created by Shed Media, follows the familiar format of the franchise with its signature openings, season-long story arcs, and reunion specials. It focuses on the social life and beautiful mountain scenery of the area. Producers carefully plan cast outings, local happenings, and personal interviews to weave together stories about legal issues, businesses, and family relationships throughout each season.
7. ‘The Real Housewives of Orange County’ (2006– )
As a reality TV fan, I remember when ‘The Real Housewives of Orange County’ started it all! It really kicked off the whole franchise by giving us a peek into the lives of women living in those gorgeous Southern California beach towns. Over the years, I’ve gotten to know personalities like Vicki Gunvalson, Tamra Judge, Shannon Beador, Heather Dubrow, Emily Simpson, and Gina Kirschenheiter, and it’s been fun watching different friends and former cast members pop up at events and reunions.
The series, created by Scott Dunlop and produced by Evolution Media, follows a documentary format. It showcases the journeys of businesses, important life events for the cast, group trips, and reunion episodes led by Andy Cohen. Behind the scenes, executive producers carefully plan each season, building storylines with conflicts, friendships, and satisfying conclusions that are reflected in the cast’s personal statements and dramatic season finales.
6. ‘Chicago Med’ (2015– )
‘Chicago Med’ follows the compelling lives of the doctors, nurses, and staff at Gaffney Chicago Medical Center. The show centers on the high-pressure environment of the emergency department and various specialized units, where intense medical cases often raise difficult ethical questions. Notable cast members have included S. Epatha Merkerson as Sharon Goodwin, Nick Gehlfuss as Dr. Will Halstead, Brian Tee as Dr. Ethan Choi, and Marlyne Barrett as Maggie Lockwood.
As a critic, I’ve seen a lot of procedural dramas, and this one, brought to us by the team behind the ‘Law & Order’ franchise – Dick Wolf, Matt Olmstead, and writers Michael Brandt and Derek Haas – really feels authentic. Wolf Entertainment and Universal Television are behind it, and what impresses me is the dedication to realism. They have medical consultants on set to ensure everything from emergency room procedures to how they handle incoming calls feels right. Plus, if you’re a fan of the ‘Chicago’ universe, you’ll love the seamless crossovers with ‘Chicago Fire’ and ‘Chicago P.D.’ – it really feels like one big, connected world where cases begin on the streets, move to the O.R., and often involve both firefighters and police officers.
5. ‘Law & Order’ (1990–2010; 2022– )
Each episode of ‘Law & Order’ is divided into two parts: a police investigation and the subsequent prosecution in court. The show follows detectives from the NYPD and the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office, from the initial emergency call all the way to the final verdict. The current revival of the series blends original cast members, like Sam Waterston reprising his role as Jack McCoy, with new actors including Mehcad Brooks, Camryn Manheim, Hugh Dancy, and Odelya Halevi.
The original series, created by Dick Wolf, became well-known for its fast-paced stories inspired by real-life crimes – a style that defines the entire franchise. Produced by Wolf Entertainment and Universal Television, the show continues to use its trademark opening scenes, intense interrogations, and courtroom drama, while regularly bringing in new directors and writers to ensure each case feels fresh and moves quickly.
4. ‘Chicago Fire’ (2012– )
‘Chicago Fire’ is a drama that follows the brave firefighters, paramedics, and rescue squad members of Firehouse 51 as they tackle fires, complex rescues, and all kinds of emergencies in the city. The show also explores their personal lives, including career advancements, changes within the team, and the challenges they face outside of work. The main cast includes Taylor Kinney as Kelly Severide, Jesse Spencer as Matthew Casey, Eamonn Walker as Chief Wallace Boden, David Eigenberg as Christopher Herrmann, and Kara Killmer as Sylvie Brett, among other talented actors.
Created by Michael Brandt and Derek Haas, and with Dick Wolf as executive producer, this series is made by Wolf Entertainment and Universal Television. It started the popular ‘One Chicago’ universe and frequently features characters and storylines that connect with ‘Chicago P.D.’ and ‘Chicago Med.’ The show is known for its ambitious episodes, often involving large-scale action, disasters, and ongoing story arcs, and benefits from a dedicated team of writers and stunt performers.
3. ‘Chicago P.D.’ (2014– )
‘Chicago P.D.’ follows Sergeant Hank Voight and his team in the Intelligence Unit as they investigate serious crimes, including organized crime and violent offenders, and respond to major emergencies in the city. The show stars Jason Beghe, along with LaRoyce Hawkins, Patrick John Flueger, Marina Squerciati, Amy Morton, and Tracy Spiridakos, who work both in the field, conducting undercover operations and surveillance, and by collaborating with other law enforcement agencies.
I’m a huge fan of this show, and what really impresses me is how seamlessly it connects with ‘Chicago Fire’ and ‘Chicago Med’. It’s all thanks to the creative minds of Dick Wolf and Matt Olmstead, and the teams at Wolf Entertainment and Universal Television. They’ve built this amazing world where storylines can unfold across multiple episodes and even jump between shows, creating these big, exciting events for the ‘One Chicago’ universe. But even with all that interconnectivity, each case still feels complete and satisfying on its own. The returning writers and directors really know how to keep things moving and engaging!
2. ‘Love Island Games’ (2023– )
Love Island Games brings back popular contestants from various international versions of Love Island. They live together in a villa and compete in both physical challenges and games of strategy, all while trying to form connections and avoid being eliminated. Expect familiar twists like new arrivals, surprise messages, and public voting that will constantly change the dynamics and decide who stays in the game.
Maya Jama hosts the show, with Iain Stirling providing commentary. It’s made by ITV Entertainment, Lifted Entertainment, and GroupM Motion Entertainment. The first season was filmed in Fiji and brings together contestants from various international versions of the show. Producers plan challenges, dates, and events to determine what happens in each episode.
1. ‘Law & Order: Special Victims Unit’ (1999– )
‘Law & Order: Special Victims Unit’ is a police drama about a special team within the NYPD that investigates sexual assault and crimes against people who are easily victimized. The show primarily focuses on Captain Olivia Benson, played by Mariska Hargitay, and features recurring cast members like Ice-T as Sergeant Fin Tutuola and Peter Scanavino as ADA Dominick Carisi Jr. Many detectives and prosecutors have been part of the show, creating connections to other series within the ‘Law & Order’ franchise.
Created by Dick Wolf, this show is made by the experienced team behind many successful police dramas and often features characters and storylines that connect with the ‘Law & Order’ and ‘Chicago P.D.’ series. Produced by Wolf Entertainment and Universal Television, each episode focuses on crimes ripped from the headlines, then follows the case through the courts, highlighting how detectives and the Manhattan District Attorney’s office work together – and sometimes clash – to find justice.
