As a dedicated follower of Lana Condor‘s career and personal life, I can’t help but be deeply moved by her recent Instagram post announcing the passing of her mother, Mary Condor. The throwback picture of young Lana holding her mother’s hand in white dresses is a poignant reminder of their special bond that will forever remain etched in my heart.
Lana Condor announced the passing of her mother, Mary Condor, on July 28. The actress, who is 27 years old and stars in “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before,” shared a heartfelt Instagram post with a throwback photo of them both dressed in white, along with a long letter to her late mother.
The actress did not list a date or cause of Mary’s death.
Lana Condor remembers her mother following her recent demise
“Here I am, pondering over all the things I long to tell you, struggling to find the right words to convey the immense pain of your absence and how it has left me feeling hollow and adrift,” Lana initiated her letter, explaining that she had been under the illusion that her mom was just out running errands and would be back soon. “Please understand that every good quality I possess is a result of your influence,” the Moonshot actress continued.
Lana shared the valuable lessons her mother had instilled in her. Among them were learning to love unconditionally, without room for hate; trusting her instincts and following her gut feelings; and showing immense empathy as the world could use more of it. Additionally, the actress emphasized that her mother taught her to prioritize love and compassion above all else.

I’m utterly devastated, as if the world around me has suddenly lost its vibrancy. Each sunrise feels dimmer than before, empty without your presence next to me, sharing in our cherished tradition. It’s only been a few days since you departed, yet the pain of your absence feels like an eternity, and I yearn for you as if you’ve been gone for much longer.
“I love you with my whole soul,” she added.
Lana Condor is an adoptive child — She had a special message for her mother in this context following her demise
I was the one who initially discovered you, and I earnestly hope and wish with all my heart that I will be the one to find you once more.
Lana and her brother Arthur were adopted by Mary and Bob from an orphanage in Vietnam when Lana was just a few months old. In 2019, the actress paid a visit to the orphanage together with her family, following an invitation from Michelle Obama. Speaking to People magazine in 2021, Condor shared, “We revisited the journey that led my parents to us.”

In 2018, the actress known for romantic comedies opened up to Elle magazine about her biracial background and family, making her role in “To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before” resonate with her personal experiences. Similar to her character Lara Jean in the popular Netflix series, Lana is biracial, with her movie mother being portrayed as South Korean. This on-screen representation led Lana to reflect deeply on her real-life birth mother and her welfare.
