This summer, the limelight is shining brightly on Krypto the Superdog, not just on the big screen but also in comic books. DC Comics is introducing a new five-part series titled “Krypto: The Last Canine of Krypton“, which kicks off on June 18th.
From a fan’s perspective, I’m absolutely thrilled about this fresh take on Krypto’s story, following his incredible journey as an Earth-bound canine blessed with superpowers. Penned by none other than the talented Ryan North and beautifully illustrated by Mike Norton, this series is a captivating addition to the DC All In lineup. It even ties in with the Summer of Superman event, promising a thrilling ride for all Superman enthusiasts like myself!
In the latest installment of this series, North intends to explore deeper aspects of Krypto’s character. As stated by North, Krypto’s backstory has often been presented in a broad sense. This time, viewers will be privy to the experiences of this small canine who finds himself on an alien planet. To depict Krypto’s thoughts and feelings, North and Norton will use body language, facial expressions, and actions – much like real dogs do when communicating their emotions.
Norton, brimming with enthusiasm for creating more canine-themed comics, breathes life into Krypto through his artwork, emphasizing the dog’s actions and emotions. He firmly holds the viewpoint that dogs are exceptionally expressive beings, and he aimed to encapsulate this essence within his comic illustrations.
The series consists of five separate tales, yet they coalesce to reveal Krypto’s complete backstory and his link to Superman. Interestingly, this series aligns with the summer release of the upcoming Superman film, which will debut in cinemas shortly after the second issue of “Krypto: The Last Dog of Krypton” hits stands.
Ready for an early peek? Pre-orders for the upcoming comic are now open, set for a launch on June 18th. You’ll be able to grab a copy at your local comic book store or digitally through various online platforms.
