Having grown up with the original Broadway cast recording, I can vividly remember the profound impact the story had on me as a young queer individual, and seeing this iconic character being given more depth in terms of her sexuality is both exciting and validating.
Ariana Grande hinted that her character Glinda from “Wicked” might be hiding her sexuality. This suggestion came from fans pairing Glinda with Cynthia Erivo’s Elphaba as a potential romantic couple. In an interview with Gay Times, Grande expressed interest in this fan theory, further fueling speculation about the good witch’s orientation.
She remarked, “Perhaps Glinda has hidden aspects of her identity!” This was in reference to her character. “In the future, one never knows, so let’s wait and see!” added Grande. Chenoweth, who initially played the character in the 2003 Broadway musical, responded to Grande’s interpretation.
