Recently, Kristen Stewart reminisced about her initial part in the 2005 science fiction film Zathura: A Space Adventure, which was linked to the Jumanji universe.
In the early days, around twenty years prior to when Jumanji was rebooted as a series starring Dwayne Johnson, the movie boasted a robust ensemble of actors, such as Josh Hutcherson and Dax Shepard.
Regarding the film, Stewart reminisced about his collaboration with director Jon Favreau and described the entire project as an incredibly imaginative and expansive form of pretend play.
During an interview with Cinema Blend, Stewart reminisced about her time working on Zathura, in which she portrayed Lisa, the eldest sibling of two brothers who were catapulted into outer space via a peculiar game board. She characterized the journey as being both entertaining and somewhat nerve-wracking.
Stewart expressed that the situation was incredibly unreal, even terrifying at times. Yet, there were moments when he found himself unable to suppress his laughter. It was almost comical, he said. Being a teenager in development, he wasn’t typically an easy laugh, but it was such a fun experience. He adores that group so much.
Apart from discussing her role in the movie, she mentioned collaborating with Jon Favreau, who previously directed the film and later went on to create Iron Man and The Mandalorian series. “I’m a huge fan of Jon Favreau, as well as Josh Hutcherson,” she stated. “Looking back, it was an incredible cast. We were all starting out then.
2005 saw the arrival of the movie Zathura, which drew inspiration from a book penned by Chris Van Allsburg, also known for his work on Jumanji. Despite Zathura not being a direct continuation of Jumanji, it did share common themes like adventure and fantasy.
Stewart expressed her affection towards the series, appreciating both its setting and the intriguing premise. As she put it, “I’m a big fan of Jumanji too. I find the concept of a board game pulling you into another world fascinating.
In this rephrased version, the movie featured Josh Hutcherson and Jonah Bobo portraying siblings entangled within the disorderly state of the game. Evan Rachel Wood took on the role of their eldest sister, Lisa, who at some point finds herself turned into an ice sculpture.
Besides Dax Shepard, another notable actor played the part of the astronaut who assisted the siblings in the movie Zathura. Although Zathura didn’t achieve the same commercial success as Jumanji, it garnered praise from critics and has since amassed a devoted fanbase over time.
