Production for the fourth Sonic the Hedgehog movie is starting soon, and a well-known actress is joining the voice cast. Kristen Bell, famous for playing Princess Anna in Frozen, will be voicing Amy Rose. For fans of the original Sega game, Amy Rose is the pink hedgehog who considers herself Sonic’s girlfriend. Ben Schwartz, who voices Sonic, announced Bell’s casting on social media with a photo of him and Bell holding their character’s toys.
We’re thrilled to announce Kristen Bell is joining the Sonic the Hedgehog movie as Amy Rose! We couldn’t be more excited to have her!

The last scene after the credits of the previous Sonic movie showed Amy Rose rescuing Sonic, hinting at her appearance in Sonic the Hedgehog 3. However, that brief clip didn’t include any spoken dialogue – it was simply a way to let fans know she’d be joining the series. The post-credit scenes in the Sonic the Hedgehog movies have consistently introduced new characters from the games who become important in the next film. Idris Elba joined as Knuckles in Sonic the Hedgehog 2, and Keanu Reeves debuted as Shadow in Sonic the Hedgehog 3. Each sequel adds more well-known actors to the cast, and now Kristen Bell will be appearing in Sonic the Hedgehog 4.
As a longtime Sonic fan, I always found the introduction of Amy Rose a little interesting. Apparently, Sega’s marketing team wanted a female character to bounce off Sonic – think Mickey and Minnie Mouse. But honestly, I always saw her more like Ms. Pac-Man to his Pac-Man, a little more energetic and independent. They decided giving Sonic a typical girlfriend wouldn’t fit his vibe, so they created Amy as a hedgehog with a huge crush and tons of enthusiasm. And you know what? I think Kristen Bell would be perfect for the role in Sonic the Hedgehog 4. It’s great to see Jeff Fowler back directing – he did a solid job with the first three movies. Mark your calendars, folks, because Sonic 4 is hitting theaters December 22, 2027!
