Netflix is making a second installment of KPop Demon Hunters. Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans, who directed the first one, are back to direct the sequel.
This film marks the beginning of a new collaboration between Netflix and Kang and Appelhans, who will be writing and directing animated projects for the streaming service over the next several years.
Netflix confirms more HUNTR/X is on the way
Following the success of KPop Demon Hunters, Netflix has announced a sequel, bringing back the popular characters Rumi, Mira, and Zoey.
Kang expressed her great pride as a Korean filmmaker, saying she’s thrilled audiences are eager for more of the story and characters, and hinted that this is just the start.
Appelhans shared that the team is excited to move forward and continue innovating the way music, animation, and storytelling work together.

The movie became a massive hit for Netflix
Netflix reports that KPop Demon Hunters has surpassed 500 million views since its release in June 2025.
Netflix announced the movie became their most-watched film ever, and the soundtrack continued to gain popularity, with HUNTR/X achieving record-breaking success on the music charts.
Awards success helped fuel the sequel
The sequel news also comes as KPop Demon Hunters continues its awards run.
Netflix announced that the movie has received two Academy Award nominations: Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song for the track “Golden.”
The streamer also highlighted that “Golden” became the first K-pop song to win a Grammy Award.

Netflix and Sony are building out the franchise
The first movie was made with Sony Pictures Animation, and both companies are teaming up again for the next one.
As a huge movie fan, it’s amazing to see how much buzz ‘Nimona’ has created! Netflix’s Bela Bajaria pointed out it really connected with people all over the world, regardless of age, what kind of movies they usually like, or even what language they speak. And the team at Sony Pictures Animation – Kristine Belson and Damien de Froberville – are clearly thrilled to build on the story and vision of Kang and Appelhans in future installments. It sounds like there’s a lot more ‘Nimona’ to come, which I’m totally here for!
What KPop Demon Hunters is about
I’m so excited about KPop Demon Hunters! It’s about HUNTR/X, this amazing K-pop group, but what most people don’t know is they’re secretly fighting demons to protect their fans when they’re not performing. It’s a really cool concept!
The group’s main problem is a competing boy band called the Saja Boys, who are secretly demons pretending to be human.
