As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I must say, Koei Tecmo’s decision to double their workforce and focus on AAA titles is music to my ears! After spending countless hours slashing through hordes of enemies in Dynasty Warriors or brewing potions in Atelier, it’s heartening to see the company I’ve grown fond of making bold moves.
Koei Tecmo, the company behind games like Dynasty Warriors and Atelier, is making big changes.
They intend to increase their workforce from 2,500 to 5,000 employees, a decision made as they aim to transition their focus from mobile games to top-tier (AAA) titles. They feel that the market for mobile games has reached its peak and is unlikely to expand significantly further.
Rather than focusing on mobile gaming, they find greater promise in console and PC games, fueled by the achievement of games such as Stellar Blade and Black Myth: Wukong.
Koei Tecmo announced they aim to significantly increase their workforce from 2,500 employees to 5,000 employees. Their strategy is to primarily focus on developing Console/PC games as opposed to mobile applications. They anticipate growth in the market with potential new hardware releases, which could include a possible sequel to the Nintendo Switch.

To facilitate this transition, Koei Tecmo has established a new internal game development studio and upgraded their Katana Engine. These actions aim to enable them to develop top-tier games with greater efficiency.
