Kit Harington admitted it felt odd filming love scenes with his wife, Sophie Turner, for their upcoming horror film, and he shared the reason in a recent interview with E! News.
Kit Harington and Sophie Turner spent nearly a decade portraying siblings Jon Snow and Sansa Stark in HBO’s hit series, “Game of Thrones,” which concluded in 2019. They recently worked together again on the film “The Dreadful,” but transitioning from playing siblings to a romantic couple presented some challenges for both actors.
Harington shared with E! News that Turner was the first to show him the script. He explained that she didn’t initially recognize the romantic connection between the characters the way he did. “I immediately saw them as lovers, which I found surprising she hadn’t,” he said.
He playfully mentioned needing an apple box to reach her for a kiss, since she’s significantly taller, and admitted it was a little awkward but not a problem. He also said that being back on set with her instantly rekindled their friendship, making them feel like family.
Turner discussed the situation on “Late Night With Seth Meyers,” revealing she hadn’t noticed all the kissing scenes in the script until after she’d already shared it with Harington.
She explained that after sending the script to Kit, he responded saying he was happy to do it, but worried the content would be very awkward, since they were siblings. At first, she didn’t realize what he meant, but when she reread the script and noticed all the intimate scenes, she immediately thought, “Oh no, that’s my brother!” She added that filming their first kiss was incredibly difficult for both of them, describing it as disgusting and “the worst experience ever.”
Natasha Kermani’s new film, “The Dreadful,” is a 15th-century story about Anne, played by Turner, and her mother-in-law, living a secluded life. Their peace is disrupted when a figure from Anne’s past, portrayed by Harington, reappears, leading to troubling events. The cast also includes Marcia Gay Harden, Laurence O’Fuarain, and Jonathan Howard.
