Kit Harington Feels His ‘Eternals’ Role as Dane Whitman Wasn’t “Different and Interesting”

As a devoted fan who has followed Kit Harington’s journey since his days as Jon Snow, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and apprehension about his Black Knight character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. On one hand, it’s thrilling to see our beloved Jon Snow wielding a mystical weapon like the Ebony Blade! But on the other hand, Harington himself seems somewhat ambivalent about the role, admitting that he took it more out of duty than passion.

In the 2021 movie “Eternals,” Kit Harington first appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Dane Whitman, or Black Knight. Though the film garnered mixed to unfavorable reviews, fans showed great interest in Harington’s character and looked forward to seeing more of him in future projects.

In the movie “Eternals“, Whitman and Sersi shared a romantic connection that came to an end when he found out about her true self as an Eternal. By the end of the film, Whitman began his own narrative after uncovering the Ebony Blade.

It’s likely that Whitman will appear again with the Eternals, but there are now doubts due to some recent events. The production of Eternals 2 has been halted indefinitely after a string of underperforming films, and Harington recently expressed uncertainty about reprising his character as Black Knight.

During an interview with GQ, Kit Harington shared that he took up the role mainly because Marvel approached him. Despite finding the part not exceptionally captivating or different from past roles, he felt drawn to accept the offer.

As someone who has always been fascinated by the world of entertainment, I must admit that when the opportunity to take a role presented itself that was different and intriguing, I couldn’t resist. The allure of stepping into a new character and exploring uncharted territory proved too enticing to pass up. And if Marvel were to extend an invitation, well, it would be hard to say no given my lifelong admiration for the brand and its impact on popular culture. So, while I may not always be able to turn down roles that pique my curiosity and challenge me as an actor, I can confidently say that the experience of taking on this unique role has been nothing short of exhilarating.

Although he harbored some doubts, Harington confessed his readiness to revisit the role if Marvel extended another invitation. There’s a hint that his character could reappear earlier than expected, considering the buzz surrounding recent rumors. The ominous Ebony Blade is set to feature in the forthcoming Blade remake, implying that Dane Whitman may also be included.

Moreover, there’s talk about a possible “Midnight Sons” project featuring his character. Yet, Harington’s eagerness to return to the role doesn’t appear as strong as fans may expect.
