As a long-time fan who’s lived through more than a few economic ups and downs, I must say I find Kim Kardashian‘s latest Skims holiday campaign a bit… tone-deaf, to put it mildly. It’s not that I don’t appreciate the style or comfort of her loungewear – I do! But releasing such an extravagant display, complete with lavish feasts and luxurious settings, just one day after the confirmation of Donald Trump as the 2024 presidential election winner seems a bit out of touch.
Critics have spoken out against Kim Kardashian’s recent Skims holiday promotion, as it was launched following the announcement of the 2024 presidential election results, in which Donald Trump was re-elected as president.
Due to the timing and extravagant aspects of the campaign, there have been claims suggesting that the celebrity, being a reality star, may be unaware or insensitive towards the ongoing monetary hardships faced by many individuals today.
In a video published soon after Donald Trump’s win, Goldie Hawn, her children Kate Hudson and Oliver Hudson, along with their respective families, appear wearing coordinated sleepwear from the fashion line, Skims, which is owned by the Kardashians.
The festive advertisement highlights a family indulging in a high-end vacation atmosphere, boasting a spacious dining hall and a lavishly supplied kitchen filled with delicacies such as lobster, shrimp, and other opulent dishes.
In the advertisement, Kate Hudson was joined by her partner, Danny Fujikawa, along with their 6-year-old child, Rani. Additionally, her elder sons, Ryder and Bingham, who she shares from past relationships, were also present in the ad.
In an enjoyable holiday display, Oliver Hudson, his wife Erinn Bartlett, together with their trio of kids – Wilder, Bodhi, and Rio – donned seasonal pajamas for a fun-filled video. The family can be seen dancing cheerfully and exchanging festive snacks, thereby generating a cozy, joyful ambiance.
Nevertheless, the timing of the launch has faced strong criticism. The campaign was unveiled only a day after Donald Trump was officially declared the 2024 presidential election victor, and many social media users found the contrast between the campaign’s opulence and the hardships experienced by many Americans to be insensitive.
1 Instagram user showed disagreement by saying, “Girl, you’re really off base here.” Another commented affectionately to Kim, “I adore you, but this isn’t the moment.” Some critics labeled Kim’s campaign as “insensitive,” with one user advising her to “pay attention to what’s happening” considering the country’s precarious financial situation.
Numerous supporters have pointed out the increasing struggle many families face just to get by, as one commenter put it, “While many struggle to purchase essentials like food.
As a connoisseur of comfortable and fashionable loungewear, I must say that Skims’ holiday pajama sets are truly a standout choice for families during the festive season. However, I’ve noticed some discussion about their price points, which might give pause to some potential buyers. The Unisex Adult Sleep Set is priced at $120, while the Long Sleep Set retails for $90. It’s important to consider the quality and versatility of these pieces when weighing the cost.
For kids, a Baby Onesie is sold at $28, and the Kids Sleep Set goes for $38. Although these costs might be justified for high-end loungewear to some, they are perceived by others as indicative of Kardashian’s detachment from the financial struggles that her followers often face on a daily basis.
Despite being marketed as a joyful, fun option for families to enjoy during the holiday season, the elaborate stage setup, including lavish meals and an opulent ambiance, hasn’t been received favorably by all.
