Killer Bee

Tommie Oliver’s Confluential Films, a renowned production company for films, TV shows, and documentaries that is both Black-owned and founded, and serves as a financier, has obtained the rights to David Crownson’s upcoming graphic novel, “Killer Bee,” published by Kingwood Comics. In collaboration, Confluential will co-finance the project, with Tommy Oliver producing and DeWanda Wise, known for her role in “Jurassic World Dominion,” set to star in this action-packed film.

The writing team of Kevin Arbouet and Terry Rossio will create this script. Rossio, a seasoned professional in blockbuster screenwriting, has made a name for himself with hits like Pirates of the Caribbean, Godzilla vs. Kong, and Shrek. On the other hand, Arbouet has recently gained recognition for his work on the Audible true-crime series MOVE: The Untold Story of an American Tragedy.

According to Tommy Oliver, with DeWanda, the duo of writers Terry and Kevin, and an awesome script, we’ve got all the elements needed for a really exciting project. We can’t wait to start working on it right away!

In “Killer Bee,” the character played by Wise is an assassin on the verge of retirement, but when she’s asked to eliminate a man she’s just fallen in love with, she instead decides to confront an underground criminal network. This project represents another daring choice for Wise, who has earned a reputation for her versatility as an actress, taking on challenging roles spanning various genres.

As a proud supporter, I can’t help but marvel at the rapid ascent of Confluential Films in the independent cinema scene. Their unique focus on narratives that are both diverse and groundbreaking sets them apart. Their recent lineup is a testament to this, with productions like “Going To Mars: The Nikki Giovanni Project” (HBO), which won an Emmy in 2024 and the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance, featuring Lily Gladstone in “Fancy Dance” (Apple TV+), and the AFI Fest-winning documentary “Juice Wrld: Into The Abyss” (HBO).

Recently, Confluential Films expanded their horizons by launching a label dedicated to horror, New Fear Unlocked Productions. Their latest production under this banner, titled “Goons,” starring Michael Rainey Jr. and Chloe Bailey, has recently wrapped up filming.

As a cinema enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that Wise, Crownson, and Jack Coburn are joining as executive producers, along with Sean Mik’ael Butler and Patrick Strøm from Cultivate Entertainment Partners. Known for their strategic approach in creative development, Cultivate brought the material to Confluential and collaborated closely to assemble this impressive package.
