Years ago, back in 2002, a trailer for Quentin Tarantino’s fourth film announced that Uma Thurman would Kill Bill in 2003. However, that didn’t quite happen as planned. Tarantino’s action-packed and violent revenge movie, which was over four hours long, was actually released as two separate films. So, it was 2004’s Kill Bill: Volume 2 that finally showed Uma Thurman getting her revenge. Soon after, a combined single-film version appeared on DVD internationally. But Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair, as Tarantino called it, never had a full release in cinemas…until now!
Lionsgate has announced that The Whole Bloody Affair will be shown in theaters across the country starting December 5th. This version cuts out the recap and narration that appeared at the beginning of the second half of the film. A brand-new, 7½-minute animated sequence will also be included in this theatrical release. The film will be shown in select theaters in both 70mm and 35mm formats, and it’s expected to play in major cities everywhere. The 70mm version will likely be screened at the Vista and New Beverly cinemas, both owned by Quentin Tarantino. And that makes perfect sense!
You know, Tarantino recently told me he always envisioned Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair as a single film, and he’s thrilled he could finally release it that way for the fans. He really believes the *best* way to experience it is in a theater-specifically, projected in glorious 70mm or 35mm. He wants everyone to see all the blood and guts on the big screen, in all their glory!
Kill Bill, even after 20 years, is still considered one of the best modern action films. It really helped bring Asian action movies back into the spotlight in Western countries. It’s no secret that Tarantino is a big fan of Asian cinema. I haven’t watched either part of Kill Bill on the big screen in ages, so I’m really looking forward to a thrilling and violent viewing experience.
Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair comes to cinemas December 5.
