Last night, it was announced that Kathleen Kennedy will step down and retire from Lucasfilm and Star Wars by the end of this year.
Although there’s no official confirmation yet, there’s been plenty of chatter about potential successors for Kathleen Kennedy. One intriguing name being tossed around is Kevin Feige from Marvel Studios.
It’s well-known that Feige is an ardent fan of Star Wars, as evidenced by the Easter Eggs he incorporated into numerous MCU films. Originally, he was planning to create and launch his own Star Wars movie; however, this project has been temporarily paused.
What is said about Kevin Feige and Star Wars?
Names in the mix
THR discusses potential candidates to replace Kathleen Kennedy as head of Lucasfilm, mentioning names we’ve previously considered such as Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni. Other possibilities include J.J. Abrams, Emma Watts (notably, Watts collaborated with Simon Kinberg on the X-Men films; Kinberg is currently developing a new Star Wars trilogy, and Lucasfilm’s new VP of Development is a friend of Kinberg’s; Watts also played a key role in launching the Deadpool movies), and Hannah Minghella (who has worked with Abrams in the past).
Feige the best candidate for Star Wars?
According to THR, there are many industry insiders who think that Kevin Feige, head of Marvel Studios, could be the most suitable choice for the position. He has demonstrated a remarkable talent for juggling corporate demands while having a deep comprehension of the essential intellectual properties.
Missed opportunity
It appears that Feige could have lost his chance to control Star Wars, given the decline of the Marvel Cinematic Universe following Endgame.
Feige needs to fix Marvel
The site says that “Feige is focused on recalibrating Marvel.”
According to my sources and recent confirmations, we can expect the revamped “Daredevil: Born Again” series, set for release next week on Disney+. Additionally, The Hollywood Reporter mentions that this also means a summer relaunch of Fantastic Four and a focus on upcoming Avengers films, which will go into production this year.
According to a source from Disney, they commented, “He’s the one who seems logical, yet he should concentrate more on Marvel,” referring to a specific individual.
