The sensational Marvel’s Fantastic Four have officially joined the MCU and they’re diving headfirst into the action! Following their introduction in “The Fantastic Four: First Footsteps“, this iconic team will make an appearance in the forthcoming movie, Avengers: Cataclysm, where they join forces with the Avengers, the X-Men, and now Marvel’s original family.
During a chat with Marvel.com, the head of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige, discussed how the Fantastic Four will seamlessly blend into the expanding universe and shared some exciting insights about the unique dynamics that will unfold when these distinct superheroes begin to appear together on screen.
Feige appears to be quite enthusiastic regarding the upcoming events. He expressed this by saying, “It’s truly exhilarating to witness that exchange,” and added, “Given my 25-year background, it feels almost unreal.
In a universe distinct from the Marvel Cinematic Universe we’ve known thus far, the team comprising Reed Richards (Pedro Pascal), Sue Storm (Vanessa Kirby), Johnny Storm (Joseph Quinn), and Ben Grimm (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) stepped onto the scene for the first time. This world, Earth-828, presents a nostalgic, futuristic 1960s atmosphere, a style that Kevin Feige had long desired to delve into.
With their inclusion now confirmed in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it’s high time for them to be fully integrated. It appears that Avengers: Doomsday offers an ideal opportunity for this integration. This upcoming film promises to gather not only the Avengers and Fantastic Four, but also the original X-Men cast, which makes it one of the most significant Marvel crossover events ever staged.
Feige noted that one of the most enjoyable aspects of any Avengers film is observing characters with starkly distinct personalities come together and collaborate. He said, “The appeal of an Avengers movie lies in introducing characters to each other and witnessing how unique personalities mesh.” In Doomsday, these interactions promise to be even more tumultuous and thrilling.
In the upcoming movie titled “Doomsday,” the Baxter Building, the iconic headquarters of the Fantastic Four, will be bustling with characters compared to its previous appearance in “First Steps.” As Feige explained, one of the joys of an Avengers film is watching characters meet for the first time and observing how their distinct personalities interact. Given that this movie revolves around the imminent collision of worlds, it’s exciting to see these superheroes visit each other’s homes. In the original Fantastic Four film, there were only a handful of characters in the Baxter Building. However, in “Doomsday,” the building will be filled with many more individuals. This interaction, according to Feige, is something he finds both fun and surreal, given his 25-year experience in the Marvel Universe.
Viewers should anticipate an assortment of entertaining and perhaps disorderly scenes since various characters such as Iron Man’s successor, mutants, and cosmic heroes will coexist with Marvel’s original family in the same setting.
For Feige, integrating the Fantastic Four into the MCU wasn’t just a long-held ambition; it was deeply meaningful to him. He’s often spoken about the significance of this team in Marvel lore. He elaborated on how they were key figures in numerous comic book narratives, including those that served as foundations for the Infinity Saga. Essentially, he stated that “they have been a conspicuous absence for quite some time. No Marvel universe is truly whole without the First Family of Marvel.
Additionally, he discussed the delight of producing a Fantastic Four film that mirrored Jack Kirby’s initial concept accurately. The design team drew significant inspiration from Kirby’s artwork and creative thinking. As Feige put it, “The Silver Surfer’s movements are a tribute to some of his line work and storytelling.
The very same inventiveness that was previously showcased is now overflowing into “Doomsday“, where the team’s unique aesthetic and atmosphere continue to shine, even as they mingle with characters from contemporary sections of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
Feige was tight-lipped about specific plot points, but it’s evident that the movie Avengers: Doomsday will encompass more than just large-scale conflicts. It also focuses on bringing these characters together, occasionally in a physical sense, as the story tackles multiversal perils.
When a film features the potential for different universes merging, it’s entertaining to watch them make visits to each other’s respective realms,” he noted.
It’s likely that enthusiasts of the Fantastic Four will not need to wait too much longer for their favorite characters to shine prominently in the MCU. Given that Doomsday is imminent, the team stands poised to be pivotal figures in Marvel’s most epic tale yet.
