In an interview with DiscussingFilm, Kevin Feige shared that bringing back Hugh Jackman as Wolverine would open up possibilities for Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans to reappear as Iron Man and Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This isn’t about focusing on past events but rather finding the right way to introduce these characters once again. It took them around two years to plan this for Wolverine.

Feige previously expressed in interviews that they intended to pay tribute to Downey’s departure in Endgame without diminishing or reversing Iron Man’s death, an important milestone. Yet, Iron Man himself appeared amenable to the idea of returning.

As for Captain America, Steve Rogers, now an elderly man, handed over his role to Anthony Mackie’s Falcon.

Hugh Jackman stepped down from portraying the role of Wolverine in X-Men films between the year 2000 and Logan in 2017. Initially hesitant to reprise the character due to concerns over potentially damaging Logan’s story, he assured fans that this return wouldn’t disrupt Logan’s narrative flow. Marvel’s intriguing timeline manipulation mechanism enables characters to make comebacks without affecting their original chronology.
