As a devoted fan of Marvel Studios and the Blade character, I cannot help but feel a mix of excitement and apprehension regarding the upcoming MCU reboot of this iconic vampire hunter. The journey of ‘Blade’ has been a long and arduous one, with numerous challenges faced even before the production strikes hit.
An exciting Marvel Studios production with past challenges even before the labor disputes arose is “Blade.” This film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe focuses on Eric Brooks, the famed vampire slayer from the comics, and acts as a fresh start for the acclaimed “Blade” trilogy, which significantly contributed to the establishment of the MCU we’re familiar with today.
It would be no easy feat to recap all the hurdles “Blade” production has faced. Mahershala Ali, the film’s lead actor, initially presented the project to the studio back then, with his involvement being confirmed in 2018. However, since that announcement, the movie has been plagued with script problems and undergone numerous changes in both writers and directors throughout its production process.
Previously, director Yann Demange expressed his conviction that the film would earn an R rating. He underscored the significance of this classification for him personally, believing it was necessary to portray the character authentically.
They gave me the R, which is so important.
During a recent chat on BlackTree TV’s podcast, Feige hinted at the film’s rating, stressing its significance for the character development.
As a devoted fan of the Blade franchise for the past two years, my team and I have been meticulously working on bringing the next installment to life. And let me tell you, taking our time is crucial. We’re determined not to rush things and ensure we create an authentic Blade movie worthy of the legacy set by its rated-R predecessors from years ago. After all, just like Deadpool, the gritty nature of Blade’s character is inherent to who he is.
As a Marvel fan, I’m thrilled to see Marvel Studios delve into R-rated territory, bringing us darker and more mature stories. With shows like “Echo” on Disney+ rated TV-MA, we’ve had a taste of this adult content. Now, the release of the MCU’s first R-rated movie, “Deadpool & Wolverine,” is an exciting step forward. I can’t wait to see where this newfound freedom takes the franchise and hope for more mature-rated projects in the future.
