Kendrick Lamar’s outfit at the Super Bowl halftime show held an unexpected tale. The high-priced Celine jeans he donned on stage were initially intended for actor Timothée Chalamet. It was discovered that they both share a common stylist, Taylor McNeil.
A source told Page Six that McNeil selected multiple pairs of jeans for Lamar’s Grammy and Super Bowl appearances. Surprisingly, a woman’s size 29 jeans fit Lamar perfectly, despite the fact that he typically wears a size 33.
Despite Lamar typically wearing a size 33 waist, the jeans fit him surprisingly snugly. In an interview with Apple Music post-his halftime show, Lamar expressed, “My aim was consistently to maintain… the essence of it as a competition,” elaborating on his methodology for his groundbreaking halftime performance.
During Lamar’s Super Bowl performance, people couldn’t help but notice the style of his outfit. A lot of fans speculated on social media about whether his jeans were more bootcut or bell-bottom in design.
As per Celine’s official site, these pants are known as “Flared Surf Jeans in Summer Dazed Wash.” What made them particularly noticeable was their extended length, a feature that caught attention during the performance.
According to reports, Timothée Chalamet stands at about 5 feet 10 inches tall, while Kendrick Lamar is reportedly 5 feet 5 inches. This height gap could be the reason why the pants seemed overly long on the rapper.
Apart from donning Celine jeans, Lamar accessorized with a unique, navy-hued Martine Rose varsity jacket. This one-of-a-kind piece boasted vintage sports detailing and personalized embroidery. McNeil later disclosed more about this stylish ensemble on Instagram following the fashion show.
Apart from Lamar’s ensemble, there was a striking accessory – a Rahaminov diamond brooch worth $68,000, fastened to his hat. His fashion choice, coupled with the fact that he made history as the first solo rap artist to headline the Super Bowl halftime show, truly set him apart.
Lamar’s appearance was a significant highlight during an all-time-high viewed Super Bowl telecast. He sang well-known songs such as “All the Stars” and “Luther,” together with SZA.
A remarkable moment in the show occurred as tennis superstar Serena Williams unexpectedly appeared alongside Lamar on stage, performing a crip-walk to his hit track, “Not Like Us.” This tune, which has garnered Lamar five Grammy awards by taking aim at rapper Drake, was the source of the surprise.
Besides playing popular songs, he additionally showcased less well-known tracks like “Man at the Garden” and “Peekaboo” from his recent album GNX. During this performance, renowned actor Samuel L. Jackson took on the role of Uncle Sam, providing the narration.
