The film project featuring Kendrick Lamar and the creators of South Park, Trey Parker and Matt Stone, has been delayed again, and there’s currently no information about when it will be released.
The film was shot in 2024 and kept under wraps for a while. It’s a darkly humorous story about a young Black man who works at a historical location in California. Chloe East and Celeste Octavia also star in the movie.
Paramount had delayed the film’s release several times. Initially scheduled for summer 2025, it was later moved to March 2026. Sources indicated the delay was due to the film not being completed and because significant changes were made to the story, altering it from the original plan.
I was really looking forward to this movie, but it looks like it’s been completely taken off the schedule! Word of Reel is reporting that the studio is saying everyone involved is just too busy right now. Apparently, Lamar is out on tour, and Parker and Stone are busy making new episodes of South Park. So, instead of getting it in early 2026 like we all thought, it’s been indefinitely postponed. Bummer!
The film, now known as Whitney Springs, has been in the works for years. Trey Parker is directing, and Vernon Chatman wrote the screenplay.
I’m really excited about this new movie! It’s a cool blend of past and present, and it follows a young guy who does historical reenactments as a slave. Then, he starts uncovering some surprising things about his girlfriend’s family. Apparently, Brian Robbins over at Paramount thinks the script is fantastic, and honestly, that gets me even more hyped!
The film’s release plans have been unclear. Initially, there was talk of it premiering on Paramount+, but those connected with the project denied this. Then, a marketing page associated with Paramount revealed the title and described it as a musical comedy, which only created further uncertainty about its distribution.
Despite the setbacks, Paramount remains in charge of how and where the movie is shown in theaters, sold for home viewing, and broadcast on TV, with plans to eventually add it to Paramount+. However, there’s currently no confirmed release date, leaving fans eager to find out when they’ll finally be able to watch it.
