When people think of the legendary wrestler “Macho Man” Randy Savage, a lot of memories come flooding back – maybe shouting his famous “Oooh Yeah!” or craving a Slim Jim. I’ll always remember his incredible post-match speeches, especially when he’d dramatically pull coffee creamers out of nowhere while declaring himself the best. But you probably wouldn’t expect comedian Kenan Thompson to be involved. Surprisingly, Thompson is currently working on a biopic that will tell the story of Randy Savage’s life and career.
That’s right – Kenan Thompson’s production company, Artists for Artists (co-owned with Johnny Ryan, Jr.), is creating a film about Macho Man Randy Savage. It’s a fitting project, as Thompson himself grew up a fan and even worked with Savage on a Nickelodeon promotion in 1999, as reported by Deadline. Interestingly, the screenplay is written by Lanny Poffo, Savage’s brother.
Randy Savage enjoyed a decades-long wrestling career starting in the 1970s, winning six World Heavyweight Championships. He retired in the early 2000s and sadly passed away from a heart attack in May 2011 at the young age of 58. Famous for his memorable sayings and over-the-top personality, it makes sense that a movie about his life is being made. However, many fans were surprised to learn Kenan Thompson will be playing the iconic wrestler.
