On August 28th, Wednesday, the 30-year-old country artist shared a deeply emotional message via Instagram Stories. The message revealed that Dibs, her beloved pet, has been diagnosed with an advanced stage of cardiac cancer, which is not operable. In her post, she expressed feelings of dishonesty in promoting her album and tracklist reveal, as she felt it was important to update her fans about Dibs first.
Ballerini explained that doctors have just found cancer in Dibs, but she assured fans that he’s not experiencing pain and the cancer hasn’t spread beyond its initial location. She added that they plan to start him on strong medications to maximize his time with comfortable, enjoyable days ahead.
She said, “He isn’t experiencing any discomfort at the moment, thankfully it hasn’t progressed beyond this point. We plan to administer strong medications to help ensure he enjoys as many pain-free and joyful days (weeks, months) ahead as we can.”
In light of the situation, Ballerini affectionately called Dibs her “little one” and “faithful friend,” having been by her side for nearly nine years. She expressed deep gratitude for fans’ prayers and love, noting that Dibs seemed to wag his tail incessantly, as if he could sense the love surrounding him from everyone.
She concluded her post by writing, “I know so many of you care about him and are sending him prayers and love, and from my whole heart… Thank you. He’s wagging his tail right now no doubt saying thank you too.” The singer also thanked the doctors and her loved ones.
31-year-old Chase Stokes, Kelsea Ballerini’s boyfriend, shared a similar post to his Instagram, accompanied by a heartfelt message. He acknowledged that the past couple of days have been challenging but assured everyone that Dibs, their dog, is doing well and enjoying his favorite treats. Stokes expressed gratitude towards those who sent messages of concern and support, promising that the remaining time with Dibs will be filled with as much happiness and affection as possible.
