Keira Knightley Bans Social Media at Home to Shield Her Kids from ‘Terrifying’ Internet

Keira Knightley, the actress known for films like Atonement and The Woman in Cabin 10, has decided to keep her daughters, Edie, 10, and Delilah, 6, away from social media. She recently shared on BBC Radio 4 that she’s completely banned it in her home to protect them.

Keira Knightley has expressed concerns about social media, calling it “terrifying” and “unregulated.” She and her family have a rule against using social media, and her children aren’t allowed to use devices unless she can supervise what they’re doing online.

The actress said she doesn’t know how long this new rule will stay in place, or if it’s even the best solution considering how much technology everyone uses now.

Keira Knightley and her husband, musician James Righton, are choosing to raise their children with limited exposure to social media, partly due to their school’s philosophy of encouraging a childhood free from it. Knightley said most parents at the school agreed with this approach, although she recognizes that every family handles things differently.

Knightley expressed a desire for greater oversight of social media platforms by authorities. She explained, “I’d like to see some rules put in place so the responsibility doesn’t fall solely on parents,” adding that different families have very different ways of managing social media use.
