Kazuki Motoyama, the artist who created the popular Super Mario manga, has passed away at 69 years old. His sister, Lisa Motoyama, shared the news on Facebook this week.

The Super Mario manga by Motoyama is a significant piece of video game history. It was published for ten years, from December 1988 to September 1998, and consisted of 183 installments.
The manga originally appeared in Kodansha’s Comic BomBom and later in Deluxe BomBom. It featured stories about Mario’s adventures, including adaptations of the Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario 64 games. Readers and critics enjoyed its humor and unique interpretation of the Nintendo world.
