The singer mentioned that this funding will be added to an existing budget of around $75 billion. She urged her fans to stop dwelling on frustration and start taking real action, emphasizing that it’s time to channel anger into positive change. In an Instagram post, she reminded everyone that they need to act quickly, as the deadline to prevent the funds from being allocated is January 30th.
Growing public outrage towards the agency is fueling calls for political action. Minneapolis has seen several upsetting incidents involving federal agents recently, including the fatal shooting of 37-year-old Alex Pretti during a protest. Pretti was a well-respected ICU nurse who dedicated his career to serving veterans at a local hospital.
The protest where Pretti died was originally held to remember Renee Good, a 37-year-old American citizen who had been fatally shot by a federal agent earlier that month. In both shootings – Pretti’s and Good’s – the Department of Homeland Security has stated that officers acted in self-defense.
Okay, so everyone’s been saying we need to cut back on spending, but when I looked at the government’s actual plan, the agency’s core funding is staying about the same. It seems like the parties involved have compromised, and we’re seeing some shifts within that budget. They’re directing money towards things like equipping agents with body cameras and improving their training. Importantly, there’s also a push to increase monitoring and oversight of the facilities where people are being held, which is a welcome change. It’s not a massive overhaul, but it’s a step in the right direction.
Katy Perry is known for both her music and her involvement in political causes. She recently put out her sixth album, 143, with upbeat songs like “Woman’s World” and “Lifetimes.” In addition to making new music, she’s currently on a huge world tour, called the “Lifetimes Tour,” that will continue into 2026.
