Katie Holmes Pays Tribute To ‘Wonderful’ Dawson’s Creek Co-Star Obi Ndefo As He Passes Away At 51; Remembers Him As A ‘Kind Man’

As an ardent fan who has witnessed the journey of these talented actors unfold on the small screen, I am deeply saddened by the passing of Obi Ndefo. His portrayal of Bodie Wells in Dawson’s Creek was not just entertaining, but it also added a richness to the narrative that resonated with viewers like me.

Katie Holmes is honoring the memory of her former Dawson’s Creek colleague, Obi Ndefo, who passed away at the age of 51. The news was shared by his sister, Nkem Ndefo, via a Facebook post on August 31st.

In the caption of her social media post, she expressed her sorrow over losing her younger brother and comfort in the thought that he’s now at rest, as the picture displayed showed them affectionately hugging and beaming for the camera.

On Sunday, the 1st of September, Holmes, aged 45, shared a screenshot from Mary-Margaret Humes’ Instagram Stories (her co-star from Dawson’s Creek), reposting a tribute reel with a heartfelt message about Ndefo: “A pleasure to work with and such a kind soul. My thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time. May he rest in peace.”

On Dawson’s Creek, from 1998 to 2002, Obi portrayed Bodie Wells, who was Bessie Potter’s boyfriend. This character had a long-term relationship with Holmes’s character, Joey Potter, who was the younger sister of Bessie.

70-year-old actress who portrayed Gail Leery in the beloved teen drama series penned a tribute to Obi on her Instagram post, describing him as a “beacon of light” and embodying “raw, unadulterated love and resilience.” Struggling to comprehend his departure, she wrote, “I find it difficult to accept that you’re gone, my friend. Farewell, sweet fighter. May you rest in peace.”

As per his bio on L.A. Theater Works, it’s mentioned that Obi, an alumnus of Yale University’s drama school, was not only an accomplished actor but also a certified yoga instructor. In addition to Dawson’s Creek, his television appearances encompass NCIS: Los Angeles, The West Wing, and NYPD Blue.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Obi lost both his legs after being struck by an SUV while unloading groceries from his car in a supermarket parking lot back in 2019. In a video interview with the publication last year, Obi discussed the accident and acknowledged that he could have perished but has since come to terms with the fact of his limb loss.

“He observed that he’s now in a different form, and life continues for him,” hinted Obi Ndefo, without disclosing the reason behind his transition, as his sister failed to mention it in her prior Facebook post.
