Kathryn Hahn is joining the cast of Disney’s live-action Tangled remake, and it’s perfect! She’ll be playing the villain, Mother Gothel, a role fans have long imagined her in. Disney announced the casting on social media with a playful nod to her popular WandaVision character, Agatha Harkness, and Hahn herself celebrated by wearing a Tangled t-shirt featuring the iconic villain. Fans will likely be thrilled with this casting choice – it’s a dream come true!
Okay, so if you’re looking for a fantastic villain, let me tell you about Kathryn Hahn as Mother Gothel in the live-action Tangled. Seriously, she absolutely nails the role!

Mother Gothel quickly became one of Disney’s most memorable villains when she appeared in the 2010 animated film Tangled. While she isn’t a witch, she uses the magic in Rapunzel’s hair to stay young forever. Many fans hoped Cher would play Gothel, but Mandy Hahn actually seems like a better fit for the role. No disrespect to Cher, of course! Recently, Tangled announced its cast, with Teagan Croft, known from Titans, as Rapunzel, and Milo Manheim as Flynn Rider.
Michael Gracey, the director of The Greatest Showman, is directing Disney’s new live-action remake. The script was written by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson. Disney initially announced plans for a Tangled remake, but put the project on hold after Snow White didn’t do well in theaters. However, the strong performance of Lilo & Stitch convinced the studio to move forward with Tangled again.
I was really excited when I heard Scarlett Johansson was going to be Mother Gothel, but sadly scheduling conflicts meant she had to step away. Honestly, a lot of Disney’s recent live-action remakes haven’t quite hit the mark, so I’m really hoping that bringing in John Hahn will be what Tangled needs to finally get it right.
